>Butter VS Margarine

What are your thoughts on this /ck/? I can't remember the last time i've had a stick of butter in my house hold, we've always had margarine. I was visiting a friend and she served me home made buns with real butter. I feel like i've been missing out on something delicious for so long. The reason butter has never been at my home is because "it will make you fat." thoughts on that /ck/? I would like to buy some butter just for my toast and maybe making my green beans tasty. will that really turn me into a land whale? I just feel like margarine isn't doing it for me anymore.

butter for cooking. I tried using margarine in a bunch of recipes that called for butter and at best it was disappointing, at worst it was awful (making a roux with margarine is terrible)

I used to eat canola margarine when i was younger, as it's all my parents would buy, now I buy a combined spread, 50% butter, 50% canola.

as for the fatness, you'll be fine, just don't go mental putting butter on everything, if you're going through a stick every few days you have a problem, but it sounds like you only want it for a few things.

It really depends on what margarine you actually get. 98% of the time, it will be a much better choice to pick butter, most margarines are made with hydrogenated oils which are very bad for you if you don't know. -soy butter tastes worse than normal butter
-it's more expensive than butter
-it's much more highly processed and contains more additives than normal butter
-it won't give sauces that nice glossy look when you monter au beurre
-for some reason it won't form a proper roux or emulsify sauces the way normal butter does--I'm guessing this has to do with all the additives it has
-it's soy. I eat too much of that as it is, the last I need is more of it.

Source please? Your information seems off. Far off.

According to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_Daily_Intake
...your saturated fat intake is 20g/day.

And according to:
http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list
...the saturated fat content of 1 tb of butter is 7.3 grams.

Therefore, it would seem that you could eat just a little bit less than 3 tablespoons of butter per day before you would appreciably exceed your daily limit.

That isn't "how much saturated fat you SHOULD eat in a day," that's a limit on how much saturated fat would be at all acceptible if you want any kind of health. The limit on trans fats is absolutely 0. I don't care if margarine has more, the fact that it's in butter means don't eat butter either

The Becel Light margerine I often use for bread has 35 Kcal per 14g serving.
It doesn't hold a candle to real butter ofcourse but it's still makes good sandwich cement.
