ignore this. if it's your first time go for a braise. chop up some mirepoix (thats 2 parts onion, 1 part celery, one par carrot) put it in the bottom of a deep roasting pan. you can add whatever other veg or liquid you want to this to change the flavor of your liquid. i like apple cider and water. add liquid until it comes halfway up your meat. rub some salt and pepper into your meat, maybe brush on some tomato paste. cover the whole thing and slow cook it at around 250 for 8 hours or until you can pull the shoulder blade out with two fingers.

I've done it in the oven a few times and it can definitely turn out to be really good. True, it will lack the smoked flavor but does the trick if you don't have access to outdoor cooking methods.

I rubbed a boston butt down with jalapeno mustard then patted on a mixture of black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and and blair's death rain nitro. Later I put it in the oven at 250 also but don't remember the time as it's been a while since I've made it. If you google recipes, you can get a good idea of how long, 8 hours sounds right to me though.

Pic related, and the two forks I used to pull it apart.

Before pulling it apart, I took it out and wrapped it in foil for 5 min or so. Next, I put it on a roll with some cole slaw and on of my favorite spicy bbq sauces.
