There is a place in my town that delivers moroccan style lamb kebab skewers.

Also 5 minutes down the road from my house is a bar and restaurant that serve fresh meals daily, I could get italian, a sunday roast, fresh scampi or tandoori chicken whenever I like.

Actual takeaway? There is a pizza express restaurant that deliver amazing pizza that blows dominoes or pizza hut out of the water. But the curry house in town also delivers restaurant quality food.

Man, I sure am bummed out over my lack of food choices in england.

Guess I better just get a mcdonalds, I wonder if I'll get a chicken legend or maybe just go for whatever regional promotional line they are selling at the moment, exclusive to europe.

If you're going on an English takeaway binge, I'd suggest to following foods.
>Fish and chips, each place does their own twist on it so you'll be hard tried finding 'proper' fish 'n chips. Lots of people seem to enjoy either tartar sauce or mushy peas as a typical side.
>Full English Breakfast. Typical ingredients include sausage, bacon, baked beans and egg - done any way you wish, although sunny side up fried egg is the preference. Other options include several button or chestnut mushrooms or a single portabello mushroom, hashbrown, tomato(es) and a slice or two of well-cooked black pudding.
>Your choice of curry. If you've got a sensitive tongue, settle for a chicken korma. If you can tolerate spice, go for tikka masala. If you want more spice, go for a madras. Go for shit like a vindaloo if you want to show off on the night and wish you were dead the next morning. Get samosas, onion bhajis and/or naan bread as the sides. You can experiment with other meats, curries and sides later on.
>Doner kebab and chips. Go with salad for the kebab and chilli sauce and/or mayo as well. It's the ultimate munchies, the sort of shit you eat during feverishly on the way home after several pints. So long as you're drunk, you'll never find anything more delicious.
>If you're near the Southwest coast, I'd recommend something called a Cornish pasty. It's minced meat and vegetables in a very fatty pastry shell and they can vary from being tiny, one-bite things to the size of your fucking head. Just settle for the typical minced beef pasty to start with, although other choices include cheese and onion, lamb and mint, steak and gravy and so on.
>If you're in North England for whatever fucking insane reason, go with a steak bake or steak slice instead of the pasty. It's not as impressive and it doesn't taste as good but it makes up for it by being served piping, blisteringly hot.

I wouldn't call it a binge, but after a long airplane flight from NYC, some fish 'n chips would seem nice to get the weird airport experience right out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll remember them once I get to England. That's a trip from NYC, first deal with security at JFK, then the flight, then landing and deal with your security. Some fish n chips would be in order after that ordeal plus I'd likely have a hangover after a long flight like that so some greasy food would help to wake me up in case I get attacked by hooligans or gypsies or both.

You might like a Thai omelette. I love those things. The thing about those is if ordering one at crowded dinner time the chef might be reluctant to cook it because it takes more time to clean the wok after it's done. If you go before or after hours to a cool Thai joint they'll make a proper omelette for you, with tomato, pork, and chile peppers.

I ordered one once at dinner time and the chef came out and asked me if I could order something else, not being a jerk, I absolutely agreed. He was cool enough to explain the reasoning.

Uneven preparation, more or less. The potatoes are cut up however they feel like, with almost no even shape, then they're just bunged into a fat fryer in whatever which way.

As a result, each batch of chips is different. Some are soggy, some are brittle, some are chunky, some are slivers and almost every single one will have a different consistency. It's just a different way of preparation in comparison to how the big American chains do it.

American sourdough is American, this is obvious because the specific yeast used was discovered in america, but yeasty breads are incredibly old
but they are not indigenous to Britain

beer batter was more than likely invented by the portuguese, especially since they introduced the concept of fried fish to britain

This is like saying gravity didn't exist until Isaac Newton noticed it.

It also shows a huge misunderstanding of what you're talking about because there is no yeast strain to discover and then use, the yeast is naturally extant on every single thing and is caught in a starter. The concept of using these starters is English, therefore sourdough is categorically English.

Saying beer batter came to England from Portugal is like saying that because the spoken word emerged from Africa, the works of Oscar Wilde are African.

On top of all this, the point doesn't lie in whether or not they were invented, developed or outright copied, the point is that British food is mocked and then copied.

Take, for example, yesterday's thread about Aspic d'Anguille being lauded as a French masterpiece if you can eat it without being squeamish. Know what Aspic d'Anguille is? Jellied fucking Eels, a dish wholly despised in England and yet negatively associated with us.

beer batter came to england from portugal because the portguese were using beer batters to fry their fish, though not all portuguese fried fish used beer batters

the point is it's not british food, it's a british spin on a food that has already been invented over and over again
saying that it's british food being copied is wrong because it's not british food that is being copied any more than it's indian food or dutch food or french food being copied
especially since America is host to so many different cultures, I'm not saying it's impossible to point out the origins of food and attribute them to a certain countries immigrants, but it's dubious to say that British food was copied

turmeric is not expensive.

this kind of rice is normally made by cooking the rice with turmeric and other aromatics, then adding a drop of red/green food colouring here and there before mixing. so there is probably food colouring in it, but it's not making it yellow.
