Different anon, but for me it's the nostalgia.
Like, the only time anyone brings that is when we're a bunch of people purposely eating food we loved as kids to reminisce, or because there's some sort of theme party/event going.
Would I buy it just for myself? No, but I don't really buy ice cream anyway.

I laughed more than I probably should have.

I went to WDW recently and at several of their attractions they sell freeze dried ice cream and bananas (I don't remember the second thing, it might have been strawberries). Any ways, one of my friends freaked out and got some.

The look of disappointment on his face after the first bite was satisfying. Shits nasty.

I feel like I've spent actual effort to become stupider. What the fuck and why is freeze dried ice cream.

Am I the only one horribly disturbed by the idea that it's freeze dried. Wind dried or dehydrated, I could handle. But freezing ice cream till it's dry has blown my tiny mind.

Honestly America, you're full of surprises.

It's a classic combination of what are now considered basic flavors, anon.

The fact that the kids on /ck/ these days only talk about fast food or balk at anything high end, despite the general over-saturation of every other form of media almost makes me throw up in my mouth, but I'm pure al/ck/, and haven't puked in over a decade.

>there are people, presumably disadvantaged Old World peasants, who have actually never HEARD of astronaut ice cream

This thread has been enlightening.

I haven't had that shit in years, but I remember loving it. It's the ultimate novelty food, right up there with Pop Rocks. What's more, it's an icon of the good ol' days of America, and one of the few relics of Space Race pop culture that still seems kind of futuristic and magical, somehow.

Astronaut ice cream is fucking amazing and I want to run to the nearest museum gift shop right now and buy all I can carry.

Freeze dried ice cream

>> No.5928213

Is it really ice cream or is it meringue?

I haven't had it since I was a little kid and got some from the Pima Air and Space Museum.

The chalky texture really seems like meringue, and I don't know why they would go through the trouble of figuring out a way to dehydrate ice cream when other desert foods are less cumbersome.
