yeah there's a black bean garlic sauce and a jerk sauce, both are thin consistency and pretty good for marinating but that's pretty much all they're good for imo. the only time i got the trio pack and got 2 of each i ended up going through the normal hot sauces in a few months and the other ones took over a year to go through, as i pretty much had to wait until i was making chicken or chili or bbq, or felt adventurous and wanted to put them in something random i was making.

the regular sauce is totally worth it, but i'd hold out on the other two if you can't shell out $10 for some marinade you don't know if you'll like

It seems to be a really big part of american culture / cuisine that hot sauce is put on almost everything. From what I read here, some americans literally can't have a meal without it.

Why is this? It seems even more prevalent than ketchup on everything.

>> No.5998875

Depends on the region. In the West and maybe South this is big but in the Northeast few do this. You also need to understand some young guys on the internet and real life base their masculinity on eating spicy food.

>> No.5998890

>Why is this?

Ever notice how many people come on this board saying "just moved out, wat do in kitchen"?

People in America aren't expected to learn responsibility at an early age. When I went to college there were a ton of people who couldn't even figure out how to operate a laundry machine.

Cooking seems simple if you grew up doing it, but if you've ever met someone who didn't ride a bicycle until adulthood you know it's more complicated.

Hot sauce is a symptom of a profound discomfort around cooking techniques and ingredients. Fuck something up? Dump hot sauce on it. Might have fucked it up? Dump hot sauce on it. Have no way of knowing if you fucked it up, because you're making a recipe that isn't hamboigahs, macaroni and cheese from a box, or pancakes from a mix? Hot sauce, just in case.

It's funny because if you take these people to a south indian restaurant or even as basic as korean, they'll start making gagging noises and make insinuations that the heat level is to kill off the bacteria in the hot climate (because of course korea is near the equator.... murrican public school systems at work). It's not about flavor, it's about fear of food.

It has to do with Southern (including Caribbean) slave culture. Chilis were plentiful and easy to grow in the south, and help mask the off flavors of the poor quality meat that slaves had access to. Eventually that evolved into the soul food traditions we have today.

>> No.5998918

It's alright. Good sauce for soups and such. Mix it with soy sauce for a simple dipping sauce, good with rotisserie chicken or similar. Wouldn't cook with it, the chili garlic sauces posted before are much better for adding a bit of heat and flavor to a stir fry or something. Heretical, but I sometimes like to mix it with garlicky pasta dishes like shrimp scampi.

Dunno why white people started picking it up so hard. They use it in the same way they would ketchup.

>> No.5998924

>why white people started picking it up so hard

It happened because internet whites started coming into conflict with the old country. Real Irish started making fun of American whites who wore four leaf clover pendants and listened to shitty "irish" music. Same with Italians and anyone else from the old country.

So generic nondenominational megachurch whites, not having any heritage to speak of, latched onto sriracha. Ten or fifteen years ago, it would have been anime and kewpie mayo, but those are now derided, and sriracha not so much. It's nonthreatening because it's made in murrica, so they can pretend to be cultured (funny squiggle words) while still pretending to love murrica. And now they no longer need their drop kick murphies and flogging mollies because they have a kind of quasi-asian surrogate culture of their (sort of) own.

While I agree with the vast majority of your post you seem to be confusing two separte concepts here.

One of them is that plants of the capsicum genus, from which we get various chili peppers, tend to grow in equatorial regions. That's a simple fact.

The other is that strong spices can (but are not always) used to mask the taste of food that is going off.

The two concepts have little to do with each other.
