The problem is chili really isn't judge-able without tasting it. (Real chili, that is). It's all about the flavor and texture. Your chili looks like it's probably great, but that's a shallow way of determining how good it is. I have a pot of chili simmering right now myself, but I don't think /ck/ could judge it based on looks alone, it has to be smelled and tasted to be appreciated.

You burn some mesquite and when the coals get hot, you bunk up some meat and you throw it on a pot.

While some chile pods and garlic and comino and stuff, then you add a little salt till there's just enough.

You can throw in some onions to make it smell good.

You can even add tomatoes, if you feel like you should.

But if you know beans about chili, you know that chili has no beans

If you know beans about chili, you know it didn't come from Mexico.

Chili was God's gift to Texas (or maybe it came from down below).

And chili doesn't go with macaroni, and dammed Yankee's don't go with chili queens;
and if you know beans about chili, you know that chili has no beans.

I said it was nice looking coney sauce. That wasn't meant as an insult. I just don't honestly consider it 'chili' without beans.

It still looks like something i'd eat on a cold day, probably with a peanutbutter sandwich.

You are 100% wrong. By every definition accepted by the public, chili can either have beans or no beans. Beans are absolutely not a requirement; the only necessary ingredients to qualify a stew as "chili" are chili peppers and beef.

>>6161995

beans are irrelevant. it's all about cooking the beef and the spices.

Chili doesn't have beans. If there's beans, then it's stew. As you can see, the absence of beans is very much a requirement.

In Chili cook-off competitions Chili has no beans because some of the contestants dont put beans in their chili so it was standardized in 1951 by John Hadaway. But thether to use ground beef or chunks of diced beef, to have tomatoes or not, to have beans or not. To put Cayenne pepper or not, to put in fresh peppers or not. Should there be oregano in it or not, to serve with sour cream or cheese or not, to have fresh chopped coriander leaves in it or not, to use a stock in it or Beer, or chocolate powder in it or not. It really depends on the recipes as well as the region.

>> No.6163729

>>6163596
Yep.
Like real BBQ competitions.
We can sit here and hem-haw about its definition, but the truth is being made in a place where the most of us don't live. The people who have a right to get up in arms about the procedure don't visit these boards and couldn't care less if we make ground beef stew and call it chili.

>> No.6163756

Just wondering what is in the hot sauce that Wendy gives with their Chili? I tried Tobasco and it sucked, I have tried Sri Racha and it tasted awful. Should I just put Chilli Powder in water and boil it?
