Growing up I thought that my mom was this gourmet chef who could cook anything and always knew exactly what to do with just about every kind of food.

Now that I've spent a year cooking for myself and watching chefs give tutorials online, whenever I go home I realize that my mom really isn't that great of a cook. Kind of sucks. On the plus side my parents are always blown away by the food that I make.

I feel you there. If I am over at a friend's house and they're cooking, I'm always a little hesitant. But as long as it looks like they put in some minimal effort and the kitchen isn't a total disaster, I'm open to trying whatever they make.
