bad idea. She should stop eating fat and sugar. and eat only breakfast and dinner, with no snacking at all. This will help her lose weight.

you should just tell her to eat less
also you should do your best to separate your assets and money from her
If you have a shared account, empty and close it now
if she asks for money, send it from your account to hers
if she protests to this method, you will know why I recommended it to you

Metabolism is bullshit, so are fad diets. Weight loss = more calories burned than consumed.

Just keeping low-calorie food in the house will allow her to eat how much she pleases. Forbid the overly processed junk food altogether. Fruit and fresh veg at all times!

Telling someone to lose weight over the phone is as effective as telling someone to clean and turning all the lights off.

The BEST way is to up-turn the family's life style is doing it together and making new, better meals the weekly go-tos. Since you cannot do this:

Suggest some "new, exciting" recipes you've learned from "friends" that are low carb and low sugar. Fat isn't a great thing, but most people don't munch on sticks of butter; they grab bread and spread sugar on it for breakfast.

Like instead of eggs and bacon, how about huevos rancheros (eggs cooked in spicy tomato sauce). Tell her about marinating chicken breasts and grilling them-- it's amazing what those two things can do to something so dry and unexciting.

Make it seem like you'd love her even if she stayed hamplanetoid, and that it's for health/kids/whenyoucomeback/for "her, since it seems like SHE wants to lose the weight. You don't give a shit either way"

Don't ever try controlling someone by telling them that's what you're doing. That's how you get a mule that won't budge.

GL, doubt this'll work tho.

You retain more calories if you're hungry all the time

Want to boost the metabolism? Get moving! Start using stairs and get some silly dance game like Just Dance and play with her every day! Muscle burns calories just by being there so a person with a bigger muscle mass resting will burn more calories than a person of the same weight but more fat resting.

First you need to see what you're eating to begin with. If you notice you're eating things with a lot of bread in them or just bread in general then you should cut that down in half. Bread is one of the biggest carbs out there and the myth that if you eat a lot of bread over meat and you'll get skinny is a lie. You're better off eating more meat over bread any day.

Have you heard of the Atkins diet? Although most of it isn't healthy what the basis of the diet is is just less and less carbohydrate like what you find in bread. To improve the Atkins diet you'll want to eat lean meats (chicken, fish) and cut down your red meats intake, unless you are doing serious weight training which means you should balance your red meat intake.

If you find that you really enjoy sweets over meat then keep a nice stock of fresh fruit in the house that ranges anywhere from bananas to apples, melon and oranges, ect. If you also find that you really need something sweet such as candy go for dark chocolate as it's the healthiest of most candy and it has added health benefits of lowering blood pressure.

Also, invest in dairy products. Yogurt and milk are excellent for... digestion.

And always be sure to exercise! At least an hour a day of anything from cardio to weight lifting to just basic aerobics that you can do in the house.

You can get thin eating lots of fat. Atkins diet works because your body produces fat by combining one molecule of glycerol and 3 of lipids. Glycerol comes from carbs, even if your body have lots of lipids from the diet it have a hard time storing fat as it lacks the glycerol to produce fat. Carbs on the other hand can easily be converted into lipids so a diet with no fat can still make you fat (but you will die in such diet due to the lack of essential oils) but you lose weight on a diet with no carbs.

Now I never said it is healthy I'm just explaining how things work.

Throw out all of your large plates. Using small plates and not going back for seconds helps a lot with curving your hunger.

If she wants to snack get her on healthy shit.

Exercise is key too. Best bet would be to get her a trainer, a workout buddy, or crossfit if all else fails and you don't mind forking the cash.

I read OPs post to mean his old lady is a lethargic anorexic, not a brooding walrus

where do you stand on this OP you tryna get her to lay off the raw brownie batter and lose weight, or get her to stop being a irritable obsessive creep and weighing out her steamed broccoli florets on a pharmacy scale while complaining about being cold and tired all of the time
