What did you do, sear that meat with space age technology that leaves a nice crust but doesn't even warm the inside to a decent rare? I'd think that would be undercooked at even the best steak cookeries and I prefer my steak rare unless the cut demands more cooking. That's a prime example of a ruined steak on the rare side. What were you thinking?
