They actually work and are pretty much above everything else i have ever tasted.

As an authentic Asian from Asia, allow me to reassure you that people in Asia consume Japanese pop culture and eat Japanese things without feeling they have to apologize for it. Japan is not some obscure thing people have probably never heard of. It's arguably a superpower and it should not come as a surprise when other uncultured whites in your area also know about its cuisine, television programs, and so on.

I think you should pick a smaller country you can obsess over to a degree that it becomes part of your personal identity since you lack any identity of your own. May I suggest Bhutan or East Timor? Both are much less known in the unenlightened West, compared to Japan.

Addicted to curry has recipes in nearly every other chapter, Yakitate Japan was more fun than this, and Bambino was a more accurate representation of how it is to work in a restaurant.

It's actually interesting, because most of the recipes in the manga do work.

It's nice that when someone makes a show about something (be it shooting, ping-pong, cooking, tennis, what-have-you), animated or IRL, that the combinations shown on-screen actually work.

I say the manga/anime is pretty fucking brilliant , because it is getting kids and young adults in Japan interested in cooking and learning to use different but complimentary styles in their cooking , without being all preachy and condescending about which style is better, all rolled up in a slice of life , competition style format with likable characters that are easily to identify with ...so I disagree with your juvenile assessment ...and I am curious as to how you would improve this show about a cooking school to make it more as you put "funny" where would you add humor and what type would it be ??..someone cutting off say, a finger ? or maybe, you know, stabbing another student ? or throwing hot oil on them ?

the cooking is pretty realistic as I have copied several of the recipes and dishes with surprising success .. the show does get better as he is not the best just one of many , he is good but not the best...but these shows are made for the Japanese first and that culture thrives on " the underdog will prevail if he works hard enough" the sad part is these animes show what they wish their culture was like , not like it actually is .. it does turn into " sports style type but it still has a large helping of silly with splashes of " over the top " like most animes ..
