Which ones exactly? The 24oz are usually a dollar and change but I don't know the price off the top of my head, it still is cheaper than the 6 and 12 packs, and Yuengling is generally really cheap in comparison to any macro brews. As long as it's none of that fruit flavored junk I'll try it out

A very nice slightly smoky imperial stout.
You might have noticed (if you're a nerd) that the label looks like a De Molen instead of a Hof ten Dormaal label. This is because the Hof ten Dormaal brewery caught fire, so they bottled their beer at De Molen in Bodegraven for a while. The name 'Vallen & Opstaan' reflects this event.

Last beer for today: Harlem Shake. It's an export stout with raspberry and black pepper, brewed by Oedipus Brewing (Amsterdam) in collaboration with Jopen (Haarlem, hence the name).

I love the black beer and red fruit combination, and I wish I saw it more often. A year ago, I drank a cranberry porter homebrew by a neighbor, and it was fantastic. So I was very happy when I came across this fella last week when I visited Oedipus.

At least from my experience, Belgian beers are extremely solid with a huge commitment to tradition and quality (mfw great uncle is a beer brewin' catholic monk). America microbreweries on the other hand feel that they have something to prove, which makes for wildly inventive or otherwise unique beers, else they maintain a strict commitment to replicating what would be more similar to many european beers.

Of course i've only been into beer tasting for around 3.5 years so I still have a lot to taste, plus America's a pretty big country so generalizing isn't always helpful.

Rated, I believe it's the best. It was the beer I had that made me realize there were actually beers that tasted good. Five years later and I work for the brewery now. It's super approachable for people new to beer and still a great one once you've really learned to appreciate a well made beer.

But, Kellerweis is a good hef. It's what I would drink when I was living in CA and couldn't get Live Oak.

You should avoid buying anything marketed as a 'session IPA', probably a few exceptions but they are usually just mediocre IPA watered down to be cheaper.

Definitely look for breakfast stout, it is excellent.

As far as when to drink beer, IPA should be consumed as quickly as possible, Less hoppy lighter ales and lagers can last decently long with little change probably at least a year. Darker beers, and higher ABV beers can be drunk right away but some are worth aging (though none require it)

Get a starter kit (fermentation bucket, big spoon, bottles/barrel, sanitiser).Such kits generally come with a beer kit as well which is basically two big tins of concentrated wort (unfermented beer). Avoid any single-can kits that require you to add dry malt/sugar because they are generally shit. "Woodfordes Wherry" is the canonical starter kit here in the UK and is a pleasant if slightly generic real ale that's quite difficult to fuck up.

Do a couple of batches with the kits to familiarise yourself with the general process of sanitising/bottling etc before you consider moving on to extract or all-grain brewing, both of which require a much higher investment in time and money, and are much easier to fuck up.

As I said, no right or wrong there, keep drinking and find out what you like. I cannot really tell about American micros but Speakeasy was quite good. The thing about IPAs is the freshness. The intense flavour comes from hops. Hops tend to have a diminishing return over time, meaning if you want to experience the flavour fully, you want to grab a bottle with an early expiration date. Some brewers even state the time of bottling to help you along.

Here's a little story

When little old me turned 18 I loved getting pissed on whatever was cheapest. Carling or Carlsberg or Foster's. It didn't matter

Then I got a little older, say 19 to 20, and I thought I was SO FUCKING COOL for liking weird artsy beers like Leffe, or Duvel, or Sierra Nevada, or whatever

Then not long after that I realised that actually I just want to drink some tasty fucking beer so now I drink Carling, Heineken, Kronenbourg, Becks, whatever goes down easiest

One day you'll realise that nobody gives a fuck how cool you think you are mate, literally no one. They might take notice if you wear super expensive clothes, or drive a fucking Ferrari, yeah maybe. But they are not going to look at what beer you drink anon. They really fucking aren't.

There are, without a doubt, some hipster faggots out there who drink craft beers just to be "cool". But the most of us just drink them because they taste better, or are interesting. Why would I drink a 4-5% bottle of piss when I can drink a 10+% bottle of something interesting that tastes good?
