It depends. Even on the east coast where I am the IT field is feast or famine. I'm living the feast lifestyle right now but who knows what the future holds? I'm not getting any younger and once I hit 40, I turn into a pumpkin and no one will want to hire me. If you can make bank with this while young then shift into a similar field with more stable work before you hit that magic number you should be fine.

If you're not that good at whatever field of IT you specialize in you're better off looking for work elsewhere.
