It's the tomatillo anon.

I'd primarily use them for sauces and salsas. I also do chicken chili with em too.

I'd say, smash some up after roasting them. Then just taste it by itself. This way you can learn what flavor it is bringing to your dish. Then keep that flavor in mind for what else you may want to use it with.

I do that for anything that I'm looking for new ideas to download.

I kind of like peeling garlic. It's cathartic. Granted, I only use 3 or 5 cloves at a time but I could totally lose myself in that batch. No music or sports radio, just peeling garlic and my random thoughts. That IS a lot of garlic, though. I'm pretty sure I could happily soldier through it but depending on what mood I'm in, my random thoughts might escalate to someplace I'd rather not be. But I wouldn't blame it on the garlic. Garlic is Love.

This shit needs to be exterminated.
Provide a "top ten" beers, all of which are confirmed to be quality. We don't want a confusing ass list of "artisan" shit, most of which is likely to be awful.
I would have walked right the fuck out.

That doesn't even make sense.

Many beers are not objective in quality across all palettes.

I love seeing a large beer list, because I either:

>want something uncommon that I like.

What I might love might be disgusting to another person.

So you want to go to The Store to get Beer?

Slamming a huge beer list is bizarre to me. Like that dude in the hot chocolate thread ranting about food specific shops and how "this isn't the 19th century anymore."

The fuck?

Anyway, gonna cook steak tomorrow. Today I got some fucking amazing perogis from this Polish place. They sell frozen bags of them so I bought some to take home after finishing.

Fucking delicious. I've had many kinds of Asian dumplings, but for some reason never slav.

I got 4 store bought pre marinated pork tenderloins for free so I'm cooking up a mesquite bbq one, replaced their marinade with one of mine that has Sweet baby rays, spicy brown mustard, lil vinegar and beer, black pepper, honey, paprika, and a tiny bit of soy for extra liquid. Pan seared before covering in sauce as in pic, pic is before oven roasting for 35 minutes at 350. Will post when done. Red pepper because half of one was wilting in my brother's fridge. Shit is gonna be daaank drunk food

I'm just using the things that I'm using because they all came at extremely low cost or free. Being a college student that supports himself you take what you can get, like pre marinated store bought pork tenderloins. I was only using it because I don't have a proper sauce or brown sugar/liquid smoke. I eat very well because I'm very frugal, probably spend $5-10 a week on average and as many free condiments and such that I can obtain from family and friends.

Not gonna post the whole cook-a-long thing....Because it's too late for that.

But god damn, it's a beautiful day. So I bought some shitty hard cider and some really good beer. Turned up the Skynyrd. Made a nice batch of BBQ sauce.

Browned off some really lovely double smoked bacon, and added a diced onion, 4 cloves of garlic and 2 diced jalapenos to that. Once it was all sweated off, and I had a nice base of fond on the pot, I added a mixture of salt, Tasmanian pepper berry, smoked paprika, coriander powder and red pepper and cooked it out until it formed a nice base.

Deglazed with a couple of hundred mls of that aforementioned hard cider, some lemon juice, and added a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of raw sugar and brown sugar (about 1/3 of a cup of each) to the mix and then ketchup and water (400ml/200ml).

Cooked it down for about 45-60 minutes and now it's packed and ready for my little brother's 21st on the weekend.

Gonna go on some pig ribs and god know's what else.

Going to take it on a test run on some homemade burgers in an hour or so.

Burger mix is some ground mince from my local butcher, more of the aforementioned pepperberry, salt, Worcestershire, black pepper and paprika.

I'll use some lettuce from the balcony garden, slices of tomato and some cheese on the burgers. Dead simple. Got some cucumbers pickling in the fridge, they'll get added if they're ready.

Kitters don't care about bullies 99% of the time, they just have fun and shit. My lil buddy was bullied big time by my parent's cats when I first got him 6 years ago but he never cared at all

Now he is a big ol 22lbs of muscle that beats up dogs and kills all the ducks in the neighborhood pond if I let him outside. Then he rips the heads off of the birds and leaves the decapitated corpses in front of neighbor's houses as gifts. I've never seen what he does with the heads. The HOA fucking hates it but he's not an exotic animal so they can't do shit but import more ducks (I assume that's what my fees pay for anyhow).

Pic unrelated, grilled cheese with mango chutney (try it, it's tasty) and tomato soup with basil and parmesan. Midnight snack. Looks burned but that's just the shitty camera.

Me or OP?

I used to work for a hibachi and sushi place where the owner would take meat trimmings and give them to this lonely pit bull that lingered on the train tracks behind the restaurant.

Pic related. Head chef's son begged him to finally take it home. Thing was pitiful and had heartworms, but made it. Pic was the day they took him in. The next one is 3 months later. Yes he looks a different color, that was because he had a touch of mange too when they first got him, and he's some kind of brindle/black kinda color.

But no, I don't think my cat's tummy could handle steak trimmings. I do give him raw chicken trimmings sometimes, they never give him an issue.

Well, I'm kinda aware you can't see much on the pictures I post. What about some crust cakes then?

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon shaoxing wine
½ teaspoon sesame oil
½ cup chicken stock
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon hoisin sauce

Instructions

Toss the chicken wings in a large mixing bowl along with all the marinade ingredients, ensuring the wings are well coated. Set aside for at least 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with heavy duty foil for easy clean-up and add a layer of non-stick foil or parchment paper so the wings don't stick. Lay the wings on the sheet pan spaced 2 inches apart, ensuring that as much of the marinade coating is on the wings as possible. Bake in the oven for 16 minutes, flipping them halfway through roasting. Both sides of the wings should be crispy.

Halfway through this process (i.e. after you've flipped the wings), make the sauce.

To make the sauce, add the oil and ginger to a wok or saucepan over low heat. After 15 seconds, add the garlic, whole dried chilies, and crushed red pepper flakes. Toast another 10 seconds and stir in the Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, chicken stock, sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and spicy bean paste. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

Stir in cornstarch slurry until the sauce is thick enough to coat a spoon. Add the scallions. By now, the wings should be done cooking. Toss them into the sauce and serve, garnished with chopped peanuts and cilantro.

You make a good point... he has a strong hunting instinct I guess; 2 days after I adopted him (he was maybe 2-3 months old at that point IIRC) he jumped off my 2nd story balcony to the ground below and ripped open a screened porch door in order to attack my downstairs neighbor's cockatoo. Started closing the door to the balcony after that incident. There was also the time he TP'd my entire apartment...

I've got him fairly trained now, 6 years later. I can snap my fingers and point and he'll go where I want him to, and I can tell him "wait upstairs" while I bring in groceries and he'll go up to the top of the stairs and chill until I tell him "come down". Not bad for a cat.

On topic, I'm gonna be frying some chicken after work tomorrow night. Did the pre-cooking tonight and the house already smells amazing.

My guess is that it's been treated to remove whatever the toxic component is.

Or it could be outright bullshit. The "pet supplement" business is modern-day snake oil.

soo... you have no actual information? you just wanted to post something because why not?

>> No.8196158

>>8196150

That was my first post in the thread. I saw a question posed so I decided to answer it.

Lots of foods are toxic but are rendered safe by cooking. For example, potato skins contain a toxin called solanine. It can kill people. But it's rendered safe by the heat of cooking. The same thing is true for a chemical in red kidney beans. And cassava. So it's logical to assume that while garlic may be toxic to cats, a garlic product could easily be non-toxic because of how it is processed/manufactured.

It's also possible the product is outright bullshit. I've often thought that selling pet supplements would be the ultimate scam. People are willing to pay serious money on their precious little pet, yet there is no way to know if things are actually working or not. It's not as if Kitty can tell the owner: hey. You know these expensive pills you cram down my throat? They don't do anything. And frankly, your target customers are idiots. Why on earth would someone think that a cat (an obligate carnivore) would benefit from eating a plant unless they were very ignorant and/or stupid?

>> No.8196164

>>8196137
>then why the fuck would someone sell pic related?

well m8 i have been on the google and garlic is proven to damage both dog and cat kidneys

"The ingestion of Allium species in dogs and cats causes a condition called hemolytic anemia, which is characterized by the bursting of red blood cells circulating through your pet’s body."

garlic is also rumored to be a natural flea repellant, but it is controversial because of the whole poisoning your pet thing

Onion is also supposedly toxic to cats because of thiosulfates they contain, but those break down in the cooking process so it really is a non-issue most of the time. Inspired by our texan OP I decided to make fried chicken tonight; this is a very old recipe (1940s era when pressure cookers were becoming popular) that I've updated and tinkered with over time, mainly the seasoning mix. You par-cook the chicken first, then double bread with a buttermilk egg white wash and a seasoned flour breading and let stand for a while before frying.

I ended up making cornbread as well since the cornmeal was out. Then realized I need something green to make me feel less fat so I steamed some sprouts and drizzled them with olive oil because there wasn't enough fat in this meal to begin with. Aesthetically not much but in my belly it feels gud.
