I've been trying to cut back on my alcohol consumption and I've found the easiest thing to do is replace it with another beverage.
Milk has worked great, and is cheap to boot, but unfortunately I'm going through a gallon every two days, which is basically the same amount of calories in the 96oz of beer I was clearing out every day. Skim is basically no better and tastes like shit, so that's not really useful either.

I tried tea for awhile but having to drink it before it cooled off was annoying

No, that never occurred to me.

Yes I've tried it, you trashcan. It doesn't do whatever milk or fruit juice do for whatever reason and I end up sucking down booze.

every time you want a drink, splash some Tabasco sauce in your mouth, or your preferred brand of mild hot sauce.

Store brand sparkling water

Make gallons of iced tea in the fridge overnight

80% water 20% juice (citrus and apple are okay for this but dark fruit juices are best)

Water with a small bit of apple cider vinegar in it

These helped me.

You could also try adding cucumber and lemon to water, or other things that will impart flavor and make the water taste more refreshing.

Only drink alcohol after a specific time in the evening. If you're a drunk the toughest thing to get around is using the stuff to sleep. So get to the point where you're only using it for that. For everything else this

is OK advice.

I'll probably try this first. It seems to be a quantity issue rather than a "i'm thirsty" thing. Probably from my childhood where my mom let me drink as much soda as I wanted, so every time I finished a can and went to take a sip and it was empty I'd go grab another.

I actually already do restrict myself to drinking only after 8. Stuff doesn't really make me sleepy anymore unless I was already going to be.
