I've literally have been fantasizing about a cake i want to make for Christmas since fucking August.

Here's what i plan to do:
>standard white cake recipe
>but take half of it and color it red and put peppermint oil in it, and make a marble cake.
>Same deal with the frosting
>the base layer will be white
>but for the decor, I'll use the double bag method, and plant little stars, if you will around the top and bottom of the cake.

Feedback?

Sounds nice.
>half white, half red, peppermint
At first I thought you were going to make it look like a candy cane. I’m glad you didn’t. Making a confection look like a different confection is a little too meta for me.

Sorry, that is what i'm going for.

The pic is from last year. The end result looked like crap.

You plan on making it shaped and striped like a candy cane? With the marbling and stars it made it sound more like a mint thing in general, rather than a candy cane specifically. If it looked terrible last time, have you considered doing 2 different cake layers, one each color?

Those balls are chololate.

I wanted to drizzle it onto the cake, but the day made it settle, so i was forced to improvise.

I thought it was the right kind of dye to use with chocolate, and i didn't want to use those waxy candy melts

I also put too much powdered sugar into the frosting

Put the mint in before you device the batter, no reason not to.
