Whacha drinking? What's in your fridge?

What's your favorite local brewery?

What are your favorite styles? What beer styles did you used to dislike but have grown on you? What styles do you still dislike?

I have a half case of Blue Moon I got for Christmas and a couple of cans of Nordeast that I have left. Probably gonna polish the Nordeast off today, since I have the day off.

Actually got a homebrewing kit for Christmas, so I'm doing my first brew right now. Already have a wheat beer in its jug to ferment. Probably not gonna bother bottling since it only made a gallon and between me and a couple friends we could polish it off in a day.

Coors Light was marketed towards everyone as we would usually have promotional POS for stuff like Major sports team or events(NASSCAR) while Coors Banquet was marketed towards the rednecks/country folk (Coors Rodeo and a promotion called 'Protect Our West' which means MillerCoors would donate a little bit of money to nature reserves in Wyoming/Montana/Colorado etc.. for every case of Coors Banquet sold during a brief period of time.)

The weird thing is at the California distributor we sold MGD and Miller Lite a dollar cheaper than Coors products since Miller sold like absolute shit in the area (The AB distributor did the same thing with their Bud Regular 12 pack can packages, except they'd go 3 dollars cheaper than Bud Light)

I mean, I'm nowhere near 50 but most people I see even close to my age drink macros, with the occasional good beer enthusiast like myself.

For instance, I was at a bar last night with a lot of craft beer, most people were drinking either Bud Light, Stella, or Corona. I saw a few guys drinking Ballast Point Sculin, and I saw a black dude with a Dogfish Head shirt which I thought was cool.

And I don't live in redneckville, I live in one of the most expensive parts of the country.

Yeah, obviously they're not going to have the most well developed taste, that's not a generational thing. 21 year olds were drinking garbage in the 1970s too, and people who haven't ordered many drinks in public are always going to do dumb shit based on something they saw in a movie.

The real reason is elderly and late middle aged people came of age when good beer just wasn't available, and good cocktails were much less popular so they learned to drink wine once they had money as it was the only quality choice. Thats very far from the situation these days so wine lost its place as the "classy drink to show everyone how classy you totally are" that it currently still holds for many old people, which was really its main draw the whole time

Not to imply wine is bad or anything, its fine, but there are usually many better options available and most people 40s and under came of age with this expectation

>> No.9911565

>>9911557
Good wine wasn't really available back then either, not for prices ordinary people could afford. Advances in logistics, agriculture, and oenology have drastically improved the availability of decent wine in the last 30 odd years, in parallel with the beer boom.

But "everyone" drank beer when my dad was growing up. At the time wine was considered pretentious. So my dad will drink wine at a fine restaurant, or at Christmas, but it isn't what he gravitates towards when he wants to relax, unlike my generation where it's considerably more common to have individual preferences instead of just drinking something because it's what "everyone" does.

Your remarks about "classy" are pretty much spot-on, but the implications are quite different than what you believe to be the case.

Tell that to Michael David or Joe Wagner, they've made hundreds of millions of dollars on the fact that you're wrong.

There will always be room for prestige wines and cult wines, but the biggest growth we've seen is in the "everyday" wine segment, of stuff that costs less than $30 and doesn't have a "futures market" or require a PhD in European History to decipher the label.

Perhaps you might see why I might think you have a problem?

>>9911925
Well firstly, craft beer is a niche market in Mexico, so, at least for the time being until either the market develops further or the economy radically changes, "nice" beer is going to reflect something closer to international prices. You're just not going to find a locally brewed DIPA for the cost of Tecate. Second, why would you go to Mercado Roma and order garbage beer like Tecate? That's like going to Pujol and asking for dorilocos.

Hm. I can confirm this. My sister always has a bottle of shitty chardonnay in the fridge, which she calls "jug wine". I've tried it, and it's horrendous. I see young women, in their 20s and 30s, drinking chardonnay all the time. Yet I'm a woman in that same age range, and I never really got a taste for wine.

I think it's probably a cultural thing rather than any sort of genetic predisposition. Wine (at least in the US) is seen as a "girly" drink, especially lately with all those sequined wineglasses and "I'm an alcoholic lolololo" accessories you see around. Women are programmed to think that they have to like wine, and men are programmed to think they have to like beer.

I'm talking about mainstream, man-on-the-street trends in wine drinking, as I assume we were all discussing, since your comment was about generalities, as opposed to what elite sophisticates enjoy. Mainstream trends are what you see in the vin au verre, happy hour, $8 glass segment. And that segment got hit hard by the ABC bug starting in the mid 2000s.
