Adding salt to your coffee is an old navy thing. Cuts the bitterness. Typically its done by adding a PINCH of salt to the grounds BEFORE you turn on the coffee maker/percolater

However if you're sticking with white/dark rums, Avoid Ronrico at ALL costs. Bacardi and Capt. Morgan is OK, but the real action is in Cruzan and similar rums.

Cocktails of note:
>Hurricane
>Zombie
>Mojito
>Daiquiri
>Hot Buttered Rum
>Cuba Libre
>Dark 'n' Stormy

I agree with holding off on spiced rum (mostly because it's shit) but there are some wonderful and simple libations that can be built with flavored rums.

Pinapple Malibu
>2 oz Malibu or other coconut rum
>6 oz Pineapple juice
Pour over ice in a Collins glass, stir and serve.

Bay Breeze
>2 oz Malibu or other coconut rum
>4 oz Pineapple juice
>2 oz Cranberry Juice
Pour over ice in a Collins glass, stir and serve.

Caribou Lou
>2 oz Malibu or other coconut rum
>5 oz Pineapple juice
>1 oz 151 Rum
Pour Malibu and juice over ice in a Collins glass, stir, top with 151 and serve.

Cherry and cream Coke
>2 oz Vanilla Rum
>6 oz Cherry Coke
Pour over ice in a Collins glass and serve.

Dreamsickle
>2 oz Vanilla rum
>6 oz Orange Juice
Shake with ice and serve in a juice glass (include the ice).

Jamaican Sunrise
>2 oz Vanilla rum
>5 oz Orange Juice
>1 oz Grenadine
Shake rum and juice with ice and pour into a juice glass (include the ice), pour grenadine into glass and allow to settle.

Cuban Pete
>2 oz Banana Rum
>6 oz Coke
stir together with ice in a Collins glass and serve

Bikini Bottom
>2 oz Mango Rum
>2 oz Pineapple Rum
>2 oz OJ
>4 oz Papaya Juice
Blend all ingredients with VERY little ice and serve in an old fashioned glass. Garnish with a slice of orange.

I'm more like one of the Rohirrim.
If you insist on a non-violent approach to raven-management, try cutting squares of foil, about an inch across and wrapping them, dull side up, around pebbles and then tossing them out away from your garden. the shiny little bundles will distract the ravens and keep them busy. Only issue is that foil can get kinda spendy after a while.

Not christian, so Satan does not bother me. If anything Odin would be the one to fear, but the ravens who serve him are wily and expected to take care of themselves. If you CAN kill them, you probably deserved to.

Besides, after the hundreds of years of modern humans farming, ravens are used to just about everything we do. Unless you wanted to employ someone to run around your truck patch all day chasing crows, shooting them is a better option.

Depends on the tea. Honey usually, though I've gotten into dark agave nectar recently and some local grown nectars (Fireweed, rosehip, wildflower, mint). With black pekoe iced tea I'm partial to dark brown sugar.

I know the feeling. I've a bottle of 21 year old Bushmills that was in the wood about the same time I was learning to drive. It's my poteen of choice. Nothing quite like sipping a couple of fingers of good Irish and reflecting on the day's triumphs.

>Don't become a beer snob

I've noticed that "beer snob" has become the pejorative appellation of choice for people who actually LIKE beer and know their shit. Wine snobs are "connoisseurs" and "patricians", yet knowledgeable beer drinkers are "plebeians" and "proles". WTF? Wine tastes like good juice gone bad to me. But just because I'm not a frog or some long lost son of Rome, is not reason for me to mock the wine aficionados. I LOVE beer. And be damned to you if you find that offensive.

Saucers of beer pressed flush into the soil will kill slugs. Ladybugs will eat aphids. Spiders will eat all sorts of insects, don't disturb their webs. Learn to differentiate between frugivore birds and insectivores. Best deterrent for crows; Mossberg 500 12 ga loaded with #7 shot. Also boomer shells work wonders for frightening off birds if you don't wanna kill them. There are plants that attract certain insects that you can plant alongside your crops. They get fed on by the bugs and not your food crops. Also there's plants that repel certain bugs, same deal. plant in the garden no more cutworms. Google that shit

Start drinking son. Seriously though, that chart is be a good place to start.

Good rules of thumb.
>Light flavored beers go with mild flavored dishes and deserts. Strong flavored beers go with strong dishes.
>Lighter colored beers are better tasting in summer/hot weather and darker beers in winter/cooler weather.
>Sweet beers are better with deserts, spicy food and dry cheeses, dry beers go better with heavy, cloying deserts, sweet/stinky cheeses and robust, flavorful dishes.

Ask me any questions you might have. I brew my own beer, cider and mead.

>Pic helps to describe the relationships of beers to each other.

I'd not call Knob Creek "delicious". I personally can't stand it, but then I'm more of a Wild Turkey kinda guy (at least as far as bourbon goes). I do highly recommend Wild Turkey's Rare Breed and Jack Daniels' Gentleman Jack. Both are a cut above the regular fare and VERY tasty; smooth, aromatic, flavorful but not overpowering. Elijah Craig is also quite good as well. I suggest you avoid ALL forms of Jim beam except the rye whiskey.

Just as a general guideline, Scotch tends to have an earthy, smokey quality from the peat used to make the malt used in the mash. It also tends to be harsher the further away from England you get. I can only recommend one scotch as I am not a fan of the stuff; Speyburn 10 year old single malt scotch.

Irish whiskey is a whole other beast. Almost universally smooth, the general taste is that of mellow scotch minus the overpowering smoky, earthiness of peat (though peated Irish whiskeys do exist). Bushmill's, Michael Collins, Jameson's and Red Breast are geed to outstanding examples.

Rules of thumb
>Single malts are better than blended whiskeys.
>The older the better.
>Oddly enough, with Canadian whiskey, I've found that the cheaper it is, the smoother the taste.
