Hello,

My building recently fitted all apartments with a low flow shower head. The thing sucks and takes twice as long to take a shower now. I have installed and removed shower heads in the past but this one is different. They have a solid chrome nut on it that only spins in an attempt to keep someone from unscrewing the shower head. How do I remove this without breaking it. I would need to install it again during inspections or possible remove some water restricting internals and reinstall. This is the model http://www.amconservationgroup.com/products/WaterConservationProducts/Showerheads/white-spoiler-showerheads/?variation_id=3666 except solid chrome spinning nut instead of one in pic.

Thanks

Hey OP, my apt building people installed exactly same shower head recently and its absolutely ridiculous. Could you please elaborate a bit on how you removed yours and what exactly did you use?

Thanks!

OP, where did you attach the tool to get any kind of pressure on whatever keeps this useless thing attached? My new apartment has the exact same head.

>> No.618181,3 [INTERNAL]

Easy peasey. With a hack-saw, cut off the metal sleeve. Make sure you don't cut the threads underneath. It is a very thin piece of metal so it won't take long to remove...then with a proper wrench..remove the showerhed. Took 10 minutes. Good luck.

>> No.618181,4 [INTERNAL]

I took a saw to the little spinning part and then it all came off easy. Don't worry it's only 15$ to replace the head if you ever need to put it back or I'm sure you can find the spinning part at a hardware store if the head is still good. Hope this helps people and F@#k those stupid shower heads! lol

Hey Everyone, sorry if this isn't the right board but I'm in need of help.

Model # is: 394GAW000100-A. Stickers/Stamps inside the unit says it is either from 1985 or 1987.

Repair clinic link here: https://www.repairclinic.com/Shop-For-Parts/a36b370d1464059/New/Model-394GAW000100-A-Carrier-Furnace-Parts

Problem: Furnace turns on but blower fan doesn't causing the unit to overheat and shut itself down and sends a burning metal smell into the house. Problem started during the middle of the night w/ no warning besides the burning metal smell.

Action Taken: National Fuel (The household gas supplier) sent their guy out to test the unit to which he found the blower fan wasn't activating (we tested it twice). He says to first test for power getting to the fan, then to test if the fan itself is working. The person who owns the house qualifies for heating assistance so National Fuel sent a guy from a local furnace shop down to look at it.

yeah, so start your own HVAC company and charge less. If there's a huge unjustifiable profit being made in a trade that is easy to enter, then someone will drive the price down. I am going to be doing some roof repairs on my home. Several parts of the roof are severely rotten, and wood will need to be replaced. I am thinking of laying metal roofing over the already-existing shingles up there, but the question I have is if I'm putting metal over areas where there are shingles, will there be a problem when I come to a spot where there is just bare plywood? Would I need to install shingles in these areas to level it out? Any advice here is greatly appreciated.

>>1765121
I'm not sure how durable, its really for low slope roofs, I suppose nail that shit down good but you're going to have to take all the shingles off first or water will get underneath. Get strips as long as your roof is and lay them horizontally. Or go to a bank and try to get a loan and get your roof replaced properly.

>> No.1765773

Will need to year off said shingles

Then remove plywood that is no longer dry easy to do with skill saw set depth at 3/8 inch usually what's on roof cut to middle of support put new ply wood then paper it use nails with orange ring around so no water gets in then re shingle if spics can do it you can

>> No.1765891

6th year Roofer here. If your plywood is already rotting in spaces this would suggest that there has been already been water in between the ashphalt shingles. These shingles are designed that under the heat of the sun will melt together as one. Aswell some companies use tar between their shingles for a more guaranteed seal. If Any water gets through this mostly sealed blanket of ashphalt the heat creates a vapor space which can create rott over large areas of the roof. I dont know how you have determined that you need to replace some plywood but i would say that stripping the ashphault is the only option. There is alot of wood that could be getting very weak that wont show from the attick side of your roof. Not only can you more acurately make sure your roof is strong and your tin will stay secured it relieves the structure of your home of having unnessisary weight that could cause unneeded stress.

>> No.1765912

If it's rotten you need to replace the wood. Go check out union corrugated. Their website is great. I put a roof on over my shingles in 2 weeks.

theres a metal wire that either goes below or above the filter im swapping

do you guys know what that wire is for? it looks like its either to keep the filter down, or if placed under it, its to keep it from falling through the vent opening. any one know?

>to keep the filter down
It goes above the filter to keep the fan from picking it up.
Without it (or under the filter) when the fan comes on the filter will just float and the air will go around it instead of through it.

>> No.1449080

>>1448688
I had a similar unit in an old 1960's rental I had once. On mine, the filter went inside that louvered vent that is under the unit. It had thumbscrews on the top and hinges on the bottom. You undid them and put the filter inside the door. It looks like someone screwed your shut.

While you can put the filter inside the unit like that it doesn't look like there is anything to really keep it in place. If you aren't careful it can get sucked up slightly which cause the flow of air to go around the filter, basically making it useless.

If you really want to help your uncle you should replace the return air grille with one that holds the filter.
Flip the two little levers, open grille, remove old filter, place new filter in, close grille, flip levers to lock.
No need to get into the air handler for filter changes.

Good morning, /diy/! I was at my parents' house last night and my Father told me about how his doctor's office screwed him out of his Percocet pain management meds. He NEVER takes more than the prescribed dose, and he routinely has his blood tested to make sure he is not abusing.

3 days ago he called the doctor to advise that he only has 4 of his pills left, and the receptionist on the other end saw he was on schedule and said she would call when his script is ready. He called them back yesterday and the same receptionist said that the doctor he's been seeing is no longer writing scripts for pain management and that he'd have to see a new doctor on Thursday. He told them he's down to only 2 pills but all they could offer was to tell him to break them in half and make them last for the next 5 days.

That is out of the question. The pain in his wrists, back, and ribs is too much for a half-pill to calm and further 4 half-pills over 5 days just doesn't add up.

tl;dr - what are some OTC medicines or combination of medicines that can help ease his pain until his appointment on Thursday?

I bought a year license to this software which normally costs $4000 and it expired. The dongle that came with it is pretty useless now, too.

http://www.livesforce.com/Easytoy_eng.html
http://www.livesforce.com/PatternImage.html

Basically, it lets you specify seams on a 3D model and then does a sort of "unwrap" to make a 2D pattern. When it works, it works REALLY well. Regular 3D programs that do a UV unwrap don't quite work as well. Even options such a Pepakura aren't really the same.

I want to release this out onto the internet in hopes that someone will crack it and make it available for the masses. $4000 is WAY too much for this software. I'd gladly pay $50-$100 for it. As far as I know, nobody has ever had a working edition of the English version PatternImage available that is cracked.

Here is a link to EasyToy and PatternImage, that's locked behind a login/signup screen. The HASP dongle driver software is included as well, in case that helps.

Didn't even break the light assembly, all it did was to break a single plastic clip that held the assembly in place. The light worked fine.

However, that tap activated the "stop light bulb out" dashboard light AND sound on the fucking car. I got a junkyard OEM light assembly and still it kept registering as if the brake light was out, even tho it worked. The owner was pissy at me and his piece of shit vehicle. I recently purchased a Lenovo ideapad (700-12isk) which I purchased on Ebay to replace my aging 1.25" thick dell laptop. I really like the repair-ability and modular layout of Lenovo products, and with only $150 to spend it was a no-brainer.

However, it came to my attention after the fact that this lenovo pad has literally no graphics upgrades like many of its related models. This sucks dick, since I use SolidWorks regularly for school. So it got me thinking about a nig-rigged workaround (I have loans and don't have a rich daddy like most of the ungrateful retards at my school) cause I can only save so much from rationing food.

Here's what I'm thinking. I buy a laptop graphics card from something high-end, like a surface pro, and fit it in a case with a small power supply. I've seen pic related for desktop GPUs but would need an adapter or something to make it fit. Then I'd use the USB connection to hook it up to my touchpad. Thoughts?

There are specific setups for external GPUs for laptops. The term eGPU is also used, if you are searching.
The people saying otherwise haven't touched hardware in several years.
They make docks or enclosures to use desktop GPU cards in laptops. And when you connect it to a miniPCIe port for instance, it's no different than when you add a card to a motherboard that comes with an on-board or on-chip GPU. You just have the PC/laptop use the new GPU instead of the on-board one. In your pic, it's not actually a USB connection, not electrically compatible. They just used the jack and wire since they are widely available and therefore cheap. It's just using that instead of a ribbon cable. Some use HDMI connectors to have more wires.

Looking at the repair manual for yours, it looks like the only option would be to remove the wifi card, find a route for a ribbon cable for PCIe x1, cut a slot in the case to run it out, then connect to something like your OP pic. This is overly complex and makes your laptop very fragile if even possible.

USB 3 isn't fast enough to run graphics over, and you don't have a thunderbolt or USB C port to use an eGPU dock.

You don't have any real options with the laptop you purchased.
You could buy a used workstation, or assemble a cheap desktop and use remote desktop software if you can't sit at a desk to work at home.

>> No.1714321

OP here, guess I'll keep using this touchpad to take notes and watch porn like I've been doing. I have a desktop at home that can barely handle the solid modeling stuff, but I bike to school and having to go back home two miles just to do a single assignment blows. Just gonna have to bite the bullet and save for a used laptop with the proper graphics card.

Appreciate the feedback, not gonna waste the time fucking around on some potentially expensive and futile endeavor. My estimates suggest that the attempt would at least cost me a few hundred dollars.

This is what you need. A mini PCIe to PCIe x16 riser in place of the WiFi card. (Or if your laptop is a newer model then it probably uses M.2 form factor, but M.2 to PCIe x16 adapter also exist.) It's like 8 dollars from eBay. You only need an additional power supply for the card and it's ready to go. I use an old desktop PSU.

I purchased the PC version of Rocket League and started playing on there, thus leaving years of items and purchases on my Xbox account. I was selling about 200-300 dollars worth of items in order to purchase gifts for my family this Christmas (I'm 25 and absolutely broke with having to pay rent). These are just some of the items (I put the more interesting ones on this album) https://imgur.com/a/24td5Se

The kid spoke to me for a while during the trade (he doctored photos that he was in fact a reputable trader and made his discord name similar to another trusted trader) and he knew this was going towards Christmas money for my family. I'm extremely upset, and there's not much I expect the report button to do. I'd like to find where I can hire someone to help me get my stuff back. Maybe put a giant middle finger as his profile picture as well. He's a well known scammer, lots of others posts and evidence comes up when searching his username.

Hey /diy/,
I have this power board from a wine fridge that is not cooling and its emitting a high pitch sound from the board.

>I've checked the C12 Cap since it was coming from that area (specs: 220uF/200v)
>it holds fine at 218uF so I ruled it out.
>I started listening closely to the board and heard that the sound was coming a transformer.
>saw a few videos and so far people claim that transformers usually dont fuck up and if they make sounds the problem may reside elsewhere.
>so far when I start the device it doesn't sound so much but it will gradually come back in a minute or so.

Anyone here could give me any leads on where the problem might be?

Label on the transformer: JCB-1440 EC28 E28 (GP)

When you hear a transformer whining it's because the circuit is drawing too much power, probably because of a short or a locked up motor. If the fridge has a condenser system, check if the compressor is working properly by measuring what voltage it takes and supplying it externally. If nothing seems wrong you might wanna check the heatsinked silicon. Thank me l8r

Any super simple mods for ultra cheap mics?

Picked up a bm-800 for $14 before Christmas and wanted to mod it. I thought about just swapping the capsule but I'm not sure what would be cheap yet high quality.

Not sure if changing the circuitry would be beneficial either, but I'd like to do something simple in that end.
Suggestions?

Here's the schematic of the mod.

Look up MS alice if you want something that is far more complex (essentially a new microphone using the BM-800 body).

This is an okay circuit for something with a XLR input providing phantom power, but it's a bit dodgy for a soundcard input which might provide less than 3V.

To use this mic with a soundcard I'd suggest ditching the whole fucking circuit except for the JFET, and connecting drain to pin 2 of the XLR connector.

>> No.1111669,1 [INTERNAL]

There is no need to use such a big 220 uf electrolytic cap since I measured only 8.2 V across the connections where it should be installed. 63 V rating is completely unnecessary, 16V would do the job just fine.

So my dad and I are fixing a boat diesel engine. We had it working but injection pump got folded (guy who was to make sure that the boat didn't sink when we were away messed up). Dad tuck it apart to clean it but after assembling it, the pressure doesn't build up in it. We looked for a detailed manual but the part we are after wasn't described well enough in the diagram, we called local office of the product thy told us that don't have par to sell since the engine is so old. We also tried the mechanic that works diesel marine engines, he told us that it hopeless and it'd better to get a new engine or just sink the boat. The mode of the engine is Saab diesel g1. If any of you guys knows anything about it, me and my dad would be really thankful.

OP here.
The injection pump was in working order before we dissembled it. But it doesn't hold pressure now after putting it together. So we are assuming that it can be fixed without getting new parts. picture related its the part we tuck apart for cleaning .

Have you bled the fuel system after refitting?
Did you replace any gaskets/seals in the pump when you stripped it down, as they generally can't be re-used.

Yes, we did. The seals were in good condition so we used them. I'll look for new ones and see if that helps.

Before you waste a lot of time (both yours and a potential employer's) ask yourself:
>Do I really, REALLY love the thought of playing with other people's shit? Literally being sprayed with poo from people who could have God knows what diseases.
>Would I find it rewarding removing giant wads of maxi-pads and tampons from drain lines?
>Am I super excited to do all the heavy-lifting, cleanup, and shit jobs that the guy training me doesn't want to do?

If you answered yes to all these then plumbing is indeed for you.

People MUST have HVAC so there's that, especially in the South. My ex-conbro (weed, victimless crime) is self-employed and making bank doing all commercial work because stores can't afford downtime but owners are too cheap to replace shit so he has great repair job security.
I do respect plumber bravery tho. Facing turds and tampons (corona lives in feces) takes a real man.

I have a set of those rare Cartoon Network party lights from 2003. Today I went to plug them in and they wouldn't light up. Checked the fuses, they looked fine and weren't crispy. So I figure a bulb must've broke or burnt out. The instructions say there are no Lamp Shunts so if one goes out, all of them do. I know how to replace a bulb, but my main problem is that the bulb bases appear to be glued into the character head lamps(which are made out of the same shit that rubber ducks are). I want to get the bulbs out without damaging the character lamps.
Pic related, its the apparent glue on the Mandy lamp as an example
If im on the wrong board, or if you too own a set of these, please help

further to above, and having read OP this time:
>the bulb bases appear to be glued into the character head lamps
I doubt extremely thats the case, see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbwoluu4Se8
- basically, just pullout (don't twist), you may need tweezers or some shit. IF it is 'glued in' and non-removable lamps (which makes no sense), as suggested above, remove with violence and replace with LED string or something, actual bulbs are not the important part here. Then install gentoo

I think that you should get a screwdriver in there, and use some pliers to pull them out. One of the most important thing when you want to make a party, it is lighting because without this your party won't be so interesting and people won`t dance. You should hire the same lights as in the disco and you will have the best party ever. You can hire from www.truesoundhire.co.uk/hire-stock/category/led-furniture-hire/ they are the best in this domain and they can help you to arrange all the lights in a comfortable way.
