I need to make an automated cat litter box cleaner: automatic scooping of feces and clumps of piss. Ideas?

Put a cooling rack on the bottom of the box under the litter.
Work out some motorized stuff to lift it up, shake the non-clumped litter back in the box, then hoist the mummified turds and piss clumps into a nearby receptacle.

you might have an easier time training him to use the toilet. if you have two toilets its even easier because one can be dedicated to that weird contraption that you train him with

Unless you have the requisite skills to properly engineer a design, and have the tools to complete the job already, and your time is worth less than minimum wage, you should just buy one. I appreciate the /diy/ spirit as much as anyone on this board, but there's a time and a place for it. https://www.chewy.com/s?query=automatic%20litter%20box

I think machines capable of what you're asking for already exist, only additional thing I can think of is to modify a unit to work with water and sewer lines to automatically discard of the collected waste.

I use non-clumping clay litter and scoop poop once a week. The litter box is in the bathroom so I just flush the poops, which only have maybe 10-20 grains of clay litter stuck to them due to the no clumping.

not OP but i've been wanting an auto-cleaning litter box myself and came up with a similar idea as you suggest, but there's a couple problems with this:

1. the goal is to not have to deal with changing/cleaning litter. All this does is speed the process up a bit, you still have to deal with it just as often

2. once you raise the rack out, you cant get it back in without removing the litter to place it back in the bottom again

It might not work with cat litter but I've always thought of making an aerated sand litter box. Flip a switch and all the shit floats to the top, then a flapper in the back moves it all to a screened in area.

I thought about this, but with scented litter it would just smell like the litter. Litter does a pretty good job of clumping/holding together gnarly stuff which is why they use it for oil spills. Also with it being liquefied, it'll move the sand around more and clump it even more. Another thing you could do is make it an enclosure type and just close a removable door when you go to clean it so that it's all contained.

How? I have two cats and two litters, I find at least 3/4 shits and 4 piss stains a day. Luckily they autonomously decided to use the one outside to shit and the one in the bathroom to piss.

>> No.1564941

>>1564233
You could make the bottom a treadmill and have sand and shit fall to the screened area, the shit gets stuck there and the sand comes back on top from the other side, maybe two sliding panels instead of a treadmill, one on top, the other on bottom to push the sand back up. Not sure if it's worth the cost and maintenance and it would be huge compared to a normal litter box. Plus you still need to replace the sand every 7/14 days and cleaning in case your cat has the occasional diarrhea would be a pain.
