Come on faggots show us your sawhorse builds.

Mine are solid timbers, with mortice and tenon connections. Just glue, no fucking nails.

At one point, over 2 tons of lumber were loaded onto these babies.

Now, they just sit in my garage, dreaming of when they will be doing serious work again.

I have some more fir, and am thinking of building a set of Mark 2's

>> No.1555979

PS Dont bother me if you are going to use dimension lumber or pine to build yours.

These ones needed me to use a Delta rtenon cutting jig to make the tenons for the legs. I canted them at an angle though in one plane only.

To do it over, I would do angle them to one side AND to the rear for extra stability.

BTW the other weird stuff you see in the pic are a bag of hydrated lime I need for making heat proof mortar for my outdoor oven build, once the snow is gone.

The silver thing is a Holophane lamp and transformer meant for a warehouse space I got for free.

the transformer is the black wiring you see.

PS IM drunk on an IPA right now so no power tools for me.

Congrats. You made a thing with the same load rating as one I made out of pine 2x4s I got from an old pallet and the folding sawhorse hinges you find at every garage sale in America. Also, your cross timbers are sideways, weakening them quite a bit. So, you took some decent wood and some nice joinery and fucked it up with some incompetence. Your work is not superior to a standard sawhorse, it is not even equal to it, it is inferior.

Would LOVE to build them out of actual hardwood like oak or beech. But Stuff that size is $300 from PJ White. I actually hate maple, and fir is a respected wood here for timber framing.

Wrong.

The limit to the strength of this design is the sheer forces acting on the cross section of the socket where the legs go into the body. I canted the legs at a 12 degree angle. Photos and math for proof otherwise GTFO

SYP is similar to most hardwoods at a fraction of the price and easily find quartersawn. Dimensionally stable, too, once it sets.

By the time the third generation of immigrants is born, assuming the first generation were the ones to cross the border, they are American. English is their primary language. All these shitheads fearmongering about being taken over forget that the USA has absorbed much bigger immigration waves than want is coming from the South and melted them into the pot without any difficulty.

Give them citizenship, let them get legitimate jobs so we can tax them, send their kids to school and in 30 years the first generation will be dead, the second generation will be working white collar jobs, and the third generation will be in school.

>white, European immigrants.
What does the color of their skin have to do with it? Hell, what does being from Europe have to do with it? Are you really trying to say that someone coming from Norway or Spain or Greece is going to integrate better than someone from Mexico? If they were coming over they were probably poor, uneducated, and low skilled. Europe was a shithole back when people were immigrating from it and we took them. People bitched then and nothing came of it. People bitch now and nothing will come of it.

We didn't really restrict immigration to the country until the early 20th century. Prior to that, we would let you in as long as you weren't sick or a criminal. We don't even really have a problem with immigrants coming from the south. We haven't for several years. The peak of that wave was during the Bush years. After Obama started deporting more people in a year than Bush did in any three people stopped trying to jump the wall. Its asylum seekers we have to worry about now and that is an entirely different class of migrant. They don't even try to get over the border. They walk up to a guard and ask to be taken in.

Anyway, there are way more people with African ancestry than Central and South American yet you don't hear anyone speaking Kabiye down in Alabama, do you? That is what time in the melting pot does.

White as in the race, not the color.

>Hell, what does being from Europe have to do with it?
American culture is secondhand European culture.

>Are you really trying to say that someone coming from Norway or Spain or Greece is going to integrate better than someone from Mexico?
Yes.

>Prior to that, we would let you in as long as you weren't sick or a criminal.
This isn't true at all.

>Anyway, there are way more people with African ancestry than Central and South American yet you don't hear anyone speaking Kabiye down in Alabama, do you?
They may not speak like Africans but they sure do act like them. Blacks never assimilated.

>> No.1563449

That's assuming "US customs and culture" was some kind of firm single defined thing, which it wasn't. It's a two-way street, dynamic, constantly morphing. Melting pot and all.

>>1561057
The policy was just, well, a lot less even "existent" than you think. If they wanted work in wider world of America, or wanted any kind of leadership role, they'd learn to speak it. If they could stay in their own small farm community and keep their language, they would. Hence Cajun French. Hence Navajo, etc. Hence the pockets of German, Polish, Russian, Yiddish, Italian, etc. that thrived for decades. Some still do.

>This isn't true at all.
Actually yes. To use a modern trigger word, it was basically an open border. (For the record, I think that's a very bad idea nowadays.) Only in the late 1800s were restrictive laws against Chinamen and other darker races enacted.

>Blacks never assimilated
They were never expected to assimilate, they were expected to pick that cotton. Ain't gonna gin itself.

You're remarkably ignorant about immigration history.

Krenov is just fine, if you like his limited styles. I don't knock all his work, its just when you look at it, you absolutely know it was designed in the 70's. Got a bunch of books from FWW with him and other in it

I can make hand tenons and mortices fine, its just when I made these, I realized I could use this as practice in setting up my Delta tenoning jig and tablesaw. So I used it to gain experience doing it on a machine.

As for calling them "hanger queens", I have been careful with using them, no careless use of a hand/circular saw, keeping them clean etc.

Did have one accident where I got blood on one. I left a drawknife wrong side up, and tripped and put a hand out, right onto a corner with my palm. Held the spot with my thumb for 15 minutes without moving it to get the blood clotted. Photo has both my drawknives. My hand landed on the big one.
