>walk onto jobsite
>see supervisor
>say good morning
>he makes grunting noises back
>watching new hire learn equipment
>he asks a question
>supervisor stares daggers at him
>need supervisor to sign something off
>supervisor obnoxiously sighs and grunts like I just told a 13 year old to pick up his room
how in the fuck do these people get promoted?

>how in the fuck do these people get promoted?

assholes tend to make good supervisors, even though some employees will quit. as long as the assohole is competent and honest, his supervisor probably loves the fact that he never has to get involved with problem employees because assholes can take care of that without help.

A lot of people can't handle the isolation that comes with being a boss. As you move up you can't treat your employees like friends because it causes conflict later on when you ask them to do something. Things like this can make being a boss soul crushing. Wait until you have to fire someone, and them make it a person you actually get along with and would otherwise be friends with.

>> No.1598705

I have no problem being a boss. I just let people do whatever the fuck they want as long as they show up at a reasonable time and get the job done. Most adults who seek better employment tend to not need management.

Most site agents and supervisors aren't even on the tools in the UK, they're usually graduates out of construction related degrees that think their shit doesn't stink and are paid dupious amounts of money to play pretend as builders.

If you're talking about time served on the tools supervisors being retarded, a fair few of them took a chance at moving up to supervisory positions through luck and jobbing, for the most part they've got a site agent as mentioned above on their necks so whilst they probably WANT to lead the troop and they're quite often shot down and set targets by a suit on site.

most managers (and similar roles) in all lines of work are retards
the lunatics are running the asylum
only retards pursue "power" which is why everything fucking stinks.
people promote these kinds because they arent a threat and its something to do with lowest common denominator behaviour. circle jerkin. you dont even need managers.

I agree it seems that way, but lots of smart people who are not able to make big bucks in IT or whatever go into management to afford a higher standard of living, and if you study human nature you realize that for most people it is never enough, which is why CEOs make many millions per year. Even the Red Cross pays their CEO many millions, and the excuse given is that you have to pay that much to get a qualified person, which is total pure unfiltered bullshit, but they say that so that everyone else down the line can justify their ridiculous salary.

Most people in that position don't have good home lives. There job is everything to them. They take the position out of the love for something different from home and take out there home woes at work.

They take it for more money and advancement within the company. To suffer in mediocrity is pathetic and eventually you top out in wages, start having to fight for more money and become paid to high vs productivity...
These are the guys who get laid off and find themselves starting over after 15-20 years at a company with skills that didnt transfer over.

They take it to provide a better future for themselves and their families.

This. Also OP needs to lighten up. I work for a General Contractor and I've gotten into shouting matches with Subcontractor Superintendent in the field where we both told each other to go fuck ourselves in several ways and an hour later we're talking about fishing or what kind of oil we use in our cars. That's just how it is and that's what makes a job site bearable.

Because these are the people who want to get promoted.
Any intelligent person who wants to be a manager starts their own business.
Anyone who is too scared or dumb just go for internal promotions, do tonnes of extra work and get pitiful wage increases. Hence why they are tired, grumpy assholes.

or you know they want to steal all the possible trade secrets from estimating, to pming, to the HR side of things in addition to actually knowing their trade before they open a business in order to give themselves a fighting chance

the amount of retarded millennials in this thread is astounding. You guys need to learn how to think 5 steps ahead before you post.
