What would /diy/ put in a minimal-but-handle-pretty-much-anything toolkit?

Chinky Freight tools.
When you use them, they will break.
When they break, replace them with a good version of the tool.
Toss anything you never seem to use and add anything you need to get more than once.
Eventually you will have a suitable bag of tools for the things you do.

>all those wrenches
2 or 3 Pliers Wrenches of various sizes, 3/8” socket set, needle nose pliers w/cutter, 11-in-1 screwdriver plus smaller electronics version, hammer will get you through most stuff. Oh and a small-medium pry bar is super useful.

A huge checkbook.

But seriously without roughly knowing what you want to do there is no way of telling you what to get.
Buy the tools you need when you need them.

I almost went with the 2 for $20 Kobalts just to see how they hold up compared to the real thing. The Irwins are pretty well built tho, and honestly comparing the Irwin Cobras to the Knipex, I wouldn’t tell a poorfag to spend the extra money when a 2pk of the Irwins was on sale for $15 and matching Cobras would be 4 times as much. Irwin makes decent pliers. The Kobalts are definitely a cheaper design though.

This is kinda what I was doing. Think about future projects, and shit that would have made past projects easier, then watch for sales and snag it at a good price. Will save you a big headache when you actually need the thing in the middle of a job.

When you go further than the basic "homeowner" kit special in most hardware stores you are always going to need a lot of accompanying items that you aren't going to be carrying along.

OR

You have actual skills and rig up something and you can get everything done with chicken wire a match and duct tape.

wrenches are crucial. if i were doing things around the house i would omit the wrenches but as a heavy duty mech it would be possible but very inconvenient if i was forced to do without them
