Not enough that people stop in the street and stare (like a svastika) but something that is a unique symbol which really shines through in a group, OR for the initiated.

A waist belt, in particularly a red one (or some other color, or with a specific buckle) would be inconspicuous enough for people not to notice (except when seen in a group), but unique enough to be a signal internally.

It's pretty perfect IMO.
