I would definitely recommend expanding and trying other types of shoes instead of just sneaks, even if its not boots.

Nice and snug imo. Definitely don't want boots that are just too small in hopes they will magically grow because you will really damage your feet.. They should definitely hug your feet snugly. You should also account for thick socks and or a thick insole if you plan on putting one in.

I love my brown ones as well, I hope I can develop a nice patina over time. Filling in scrapes and scratches with black polish is giving it a "coffee bean" pattern so far.

Yeah they can function as a work boot, I agree but I don't see how that prevents them from being worn casually. I really don't think anyone uses the brown ones in any military forces anymore. Perhaps the black ones or more modern models but even then lots of boots look militaristic.
