social media is a double edged sword
Back in the day you had to physically find people with the same interests/hobbies as you, so you had the nice little pockets of cliques and subcultures, nowadays you can easily find a discord, chat, streams, with likeminded people.
The downside to this was you got the freaks, people like diaperfurs or trantrenders or just socially inept people, people who normally would have kept their weird shit secret and hidden, now being reaffirmed for their degenracy. Social media also meant the death of subcultures, nothing is unique anymore, it will be coopted, made into a meme, price tag stuck onto it and sold to people.
It's happened before in the past, but now at a rapid rate.
It happened to punk, it happened to grunge, it happened to emos/scene, it happened to hipsters, it happened to EDM, it's happening to hiphop and it wil continue to happen.
Find your aesthetic, and hold onto it, cherish it, cause it will be sold to you in the near future.
