If you think you're too young or short for an overcoat. Try not too care when you start wearing it, eventually you'll feel confident in it if you wear it regularly. It helps if you start building your wardrobe around it so it looks natural.

On a more serious note, I honestly feel like long overcoats are extremely impractical and look stupid outside of photoshoots. I don't think they look good when you button them up either which kind of defeats the purpose if you're looking for something to wear during winter.

I'm 19 and I'm getting an overcoat. What I'm doing is buying the coat and then also a cheap casual coat like a parka or something like that, and then wearing the parka when I know I'm doing something that would make me look foolish if I was in an overcoat (like biking to work or going to Walmart or something). Plain navy overcoat with like a grey Crewneck sweater and black denim is an alright look for campus imo.
