Just sampled the new Amouage Imitation. I am underwhelmed. It smells kinda like nail polish remover to me. That combination of leather and rose, then I get mostly orris and vetiver as it dries. It’s not bad, and may grow on me over time, but for now, it’s a no for me. Too bad, because the bottle is really cool and I’d love to have it on my shelf.

I've just barely scratched the surface of the world of fragrances, but it seems to me already like there are some scents that are simply made, not to be liked by everyone, but at least not to cause negative reaction in most of people. Stuff like invictus, eros, XS and such. It seems to me that they do to fragrances what coca cola does to soft drinks, created as a one-scent-fits-all type of thing, backed by unbeateble marketing campaign.

I’m only recently getting into fragrances. I went to a few stores and smelled as much as I possibly could and picked what I like most. I then dig a bit into fragrantica, read a few articles, and figured out why I liked these. I also thought about which fragrances always get me a lot of compliments since I interact with a shit ton of people daily. The only clone that I find to be definitively better than the original is Rasasi La Yuqawam, which is superior to Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.

With Aventus, you have Pineapple Vintage Intense which is a 95% clone at very good value, especially for Americans.

If M01 is ethereal pencil shavings, M04 is ethereal sour wood. The javanol "sandalwood" seems like three or four different notes despite being only one scent molecule. You get something that reads as wood, something creamy, something tangy. It's totally cold and robotic in one moment but can read as warm and animalic in the next. And the performance is obscene.

Coach for Men or Coach for Men Platinum? The original was very nice at first, but started getting sick of it after the 5th or so wear. I smelled it on someone else at work and it smelled nauseating and headache inducing. I kept thinking “is that what I smell like?” and stopped wearing it. Santal has a better staying power without being overwhelming.
The two are also cheaper but don't last as long.

My only issue with it; am I not going to smell dated? I absolutely love the smell and so far it's my favorite from the A*men line(although I haven't smelled pure havane and pure malt).

Like Layton with more sandalwood and slightly less sweetness. The note lists online aren't accurate at all. I definitely get sandalwood, vanilla, and patchouli as the core of the scent. The rest is extraneous and just feels like PdM house base to me.

Carlisle could be a second Layton flanker if it weren't introduced a year prior to the original. I could see wearing it as an evening fragrance in the summer and during the daytime in fall and winter.
