I just bought my first (and likely last) homage. Genuine Paul Newman Daytonas are so inaccessible that I think Rolex has lost their monopoly on the design.

I like that it's a combination of the 6263 with the black bezel and screw-down pushers and the 6239 with the cream panda dial.

I really wanted a PN Daytona homage but I'm not about to spend $1000+ on a Steinhart when there's so many original watches with a real heritage at that price point.
In a way the Alpha's imperfections make it feel truly vintage. Obviously Rolex QC was better than this in the 60s, but not by a great deal.

Reposting from the previous thread since I need /wt/'s take on this.

Bros, I really want a nice Tag Heuer watch for everyday use since I don't want to use the plastic g-shocks anymore but it's so expensive.

Started saving up on it yesterday but would it be okay to buy a decent fake as a temporary piece while I'm saving up for it? The cheapest one I can find that looks nice costs about $500 when converted from our currency so it'll take me some time.

Well, which tag are you dreaming of?
Autists will foam out of their mouths but i say it's ok. The watch industry is full of overmemed prices anyway. If you only care for the design and not give a shit about the movement or the history the company, go for it.

Just don't try to fool people that it's the real thing, you will be made fun of.

Not so sure about seiko and longines being expensive as fuck tho. Just do what you like.

But if you only use the fake for a short period then service is no problem for you.

i originally wanted a breitling, but i found most breitlings to be too busy and even the non chronograph watches they have just look too bulky and blocky. my cousins 20yr old breitling is chronograph but it looks sleek with a narrow bezel and has roman numerals. shame they got rid of that. im not too familiar with rolex, only the submariner. breitlings navitimer i like the look of but i strongly dislike the regular numbers opposed to the roman numerals in pic related. so thats a deal breaker. and the superocean truly just looks like a submariner. at which point i would just rather have. i found the omega to be the first truly clean looking watch i have personally stumbled upon in my quest for a timepiece.

>> No.14032139

I think there are quite a few similarities. General case outline as you point out, exposed crown, plain bezel and chapter ring (though newer Explorers have the stupid ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX), roughly similar bracelets. Even the dials have a decent amount in common, they're different in details but they're both relatively simple with high contrast markers, similar branding layout, etc. They're by no means identical but they're clearly in the same market segment and likely to be cross-shopped against one another by anybody who cares enough about watches to not just automatically buy the Explorer because it says ROLEX on it. (And for what it's worth, most Explorer buyers probably are interested enough in watches to actually look at other options, clueless brandwhores would go for a Datejust or maybe a Sub in this price bracket.)
