because thats how real vintage lume looks like

it discolours and gets kinda gunky a bit and sometimes even turn green and to black.

modern lume does not age like this anymore and modern watches with "vintage lume" (railmaster etc) actually has the lume coloured to resemble actual vintage lume.

I think I will get the Fortis b42 cosmonaut chrono as first big purchase. It looks nice, like a toolwatch, and for me the brand not being really well known is a plus.If I chose to not get the Fortis, I will get a Damasko I think. You shouldn't care about luxury, care only about quality/price ratio.Almost better spending 3k+2k in a couple of nice watches that falling into the meme luxury and just getting one single watch. But if you like more a specific luxury watch you should aim for it, in the end this is just a hobby and you should buy something you really like.

Why aren’t mechanical alarms more common? They’re a cool and actually useful complication, and something that mech watches do better than digital since they vibrate on your wrist instead of just beeping. Can’t be that hard to build considering Soviet alarms sell for $100 all day (and like $170 in today’s prices when they were new). Yet the cheapest current production Swiss mech alarm is a few grand AFAIK.

It's hideous. The details are great, it has some kind of an unscratchable alloy case and faceted sapphire crystal, in perfect external condition, but look at it. Name a quartz diver (200m+ regular, or actual "Divers") that doesnt look like shit, microbrands are fine too. Also, not looking to spend more than a few hundred on a quartz watch. Other than the Casio Duro/Marlin.

On a related note, have you ever had a water resistance fail on you? I have a 100m push crown shitter that has survived swimming in the ocean and chlorinated pools without fail.

The real actual official store on t-mall only has the new 2020 release 1963 that looks gay with the weird concentric circles on the dial. So if you want the seagull limited edition reissue you have to get it from the fake official store on AliExpress or this website, i have no idea who runs the website.
https://www.seagullwatchcompany.com/products/seagull-1963-mechanical-chronograph-watch-re-issued-edition-fkjb?_pos=4&_sid=b8d4dd789&_ss=r
The AliExpress store sells real seagull watches, they are just a reseller and not factory direct. AliExpress has crazy extensive buyer protection for a reason. It's hard to get scammed on there unless you are a complete retard.

It's about exclusivity and brand integrity. If you have too many watches popping up on grey market sites or Chrono24 the concern is that it could devalue the brand. I don't really disagree, but exclusivity is the name of the game with high-end watch brands. And if you can't price people out you can restrict how watches circulate.

Tell me about leather straps. I've got a couple of "genuine leather" which smelled awful when I got sweaty and the smell never disappeared, even after washing. Since then I've been exclusively using NATOs but now I'm in the market for a nice brown leather strap. Should I be aiming at high-quality real leather? Am I going to have issues with it when I get sweaty?

>> No.15361356

>>15361350
It's leather. They all absorb sweat. They all smell. You could get oiled leather straps and then oil them up yourself every month, which helps, but it's just the nature of the material. The only leather straps that will not have that problem are the ones that have a silicon layer where it actually touches your wrist, but they are rare and probably expensive.

>> No.15361362

>>15361350
"Genuine leather" is the lowest grade of leather products. If you get a nicer quality leather strap it will probably still smell a bit if it gets sweaty but it will smell like leather and not some combination of chemicals and a barnyard.

They make some interesting designs, but something is always somehow off.
You should beware checking the height, seeing as some of their 40mm cases are way too high for the NH35 they carry and their lugs are agressively pointed down, so the total height is pretty substantial, even with flat glass.

They also ask ridiculous money for their watches, even more so now that they switched to ETA movements.
For reference, you can get some K1 head-only watches for 185 bucks on some strap website I forgot the name of.

Pic rel, the 40mm Geckota on top is as tall as the 43mm Tisell, the latter carries the height much better with the dimensions and lug shape The Geckota is akin to a magic chinese tiger balm dose on your wrist, still not as bad as a 38mm Sinn chrono, though.

They are coming along, I see their newer models are much more refined each time they come up with something new.

Agreed. I desperately want a vintage tudor advisor, but all examples I see for sale are overpriced and in shit condition.

JLC also has some interesting memovox models. The modern ones even look really nice, but are way too big.

Chinese Natos are a no-go for me. You don't know what you're going to get, and it's going to take way too long. Up to you.

Gf’s were college students Working part time. None would afford a Rolex or omega however they did spend couple hundred on a decent watch.

they wear apple watches and fitbits. Most logical people would not spend that much money on a watch.
