I'm actually quite happy with the prices of Rolex. I was under the impression that any of the models that I liked were just priced far too high to expect to purchase any time soon. But what I realized was that was because I was selecting fully gold/platinum models. I was thinking that the Submarine was over $40k this whole time. But in regular Oystersteel, or even Steel+Gold, it's closer to $10k.

Now, I won't for a second pretend that $10k on something like a watch is not ridiculous. But it's definitely something much more achievable than I originally thought when I saw $40k+ on all these watches.

I did, shit is comfortable. It pissed me sometimes off when a watch slides down your wrist and you have to be carfull not to bend your wrist too hard or you'll stretch the bracelet or bend the pins.
With this one, even that fat watch is no problem.
I'll get one that tapers and has fitting lugs. Got this one, to test with several watches, the lug width is variable. Fits best with my chrono.

Yeah it's a shame the tudor ranger being that big, I was really looking into buying some similar watch, but it had 48mm lug to lug, which is big for a non toolwatch.

Of all the seikos I've bought, the flightmaster is probably the one I feel the worst about. In the first 5 minutes after acquiring it I realized I'd made a mistake. This watch wasn't a show piece ,it came out in the very early 2000's and probably hasn't ever been serviced. The clasp doesn't even work properly. Someone probably bought it new, wore it for 15 years and sold it (to me) when it started running slow.
I'm entertaining the idea of sending all my automatic seiko chronos and both my 9983-7000 dress watches to japan to be serviced they deserve it. Nobody wants to touch these things where I live.

The 8r39? it's bigger than it needs to be and it's modular, no love went into it's design but It's rare and I just like the thing.
The 9983s? It's possible that they haven't been serviced since the 70's. The date wheels definitely need fixing. They're in.

However, depending on what it is and its relative rarity there just may not be any parts.
I like the 6159-7001 but the price has doubled in the past 5 or so years. And even if I got one, who the fuck can service if there are parts to be replaced?
It's one of those watches where parts are so rare that the only way to get them is from another donor watch that's even more fucked that it such that its only use it to donate components to examples that can be salvaged.

I'd like to dedicate this post to everyone who believed in me through my vostock regulation quest. I'm averaging 4s/d with the watch resting in different positions and wearing it while doing activities that are not condusive to the health of an automatic watch.

I don't think it's ever been a thing. I remember reading forum threads on wus a decade ago about the troubles of getting vintage GS fixed and how seiko basically says "nope" and just hand out the contact of some Japanese restorer specialists.
Maybe seiko took it and gave it to the actual repairman on his behalf? If he's not in Japan that would make sense. But seiko, like rolex, don't give a shit about their vintage models. Not like say, patek and the like.

My guess is, they did not care about old models and if they start controlling and authenticating parts and tracking them back, they will piss of lots of vintage collectors and endanger their brand. They clamped down on their newer models i think, they are controlling exactly what watchmaker is allowed to get rolex spares and i think they ditched independent watchmakers and only service at rolex now or rolex officially certified service centers.

This meme misunderstanding needs to die. The original warning is against using date quickset during those hours, when the date change is already/still underway, so you're pushing against the mechanism. Absolutely nothing wrong with changing the time. How else could you manually wind the time over midnight at all?

That's the lesser reason. (and it's true: on a Vostok the balance can stop if you turn the time backwards. it usually starts right back up again though.) The greater one is that using the date quick-set function sets the date window to the unchanged position of some other date, so whatever's left of the date transition between 2100 and 0300 may put the date wheel out of whack.

Two remedies: set time outside that interval and then change the date, or turn the date wheel a complete revolution around to unfuck it in case it does get off-wack.

Anyone here gone down the Seagull 1963 rabbit hole? Is it possible to figure out where a 1963 came from if it's not a Tianjin factory original? I don't mind having a Shenzhen "fake" since they share the same movement anyway, but I still want to figure out which ones come from more "legitimate" sources like the ones from HKED. Are there any recommendations for watches that are like the Casio F91W-1 without feeling so cheap? Digital would be a plus for me, but maybe with titanium instead of the cheap plastic/metal used by casio?

I have dress watches/everyday watches, but as my job has changed a bit, I need to have an ultra-light watch with with surplus features (digital is going to beat out any combination of complications here) that is light/comfortable to wear all day.
