I have an old big E Levi's jacket, it's corduroy.
The thing is like 20 inches across the shoulders. Probably around a 40 inch chest, I don't think I ever measured.
But the sleeves on this jacket fit me more like a shirt.
In fact, if I wear a long-sleeved shirt under it the sleeves of the shirt will probably poke out longer than the jacket.
Were jacket sleeves like that the style at the time or have they shrunk?
It seems really weird to me that it has too much shoulder and not enough sleeve.

This really depends on how old you are and when you're planning on wearing them. 20s an in an office? Obviously fucking wear chinos in whatever color you like. College student? There are more interesting alternatives, but you can still wear them if you want. Black is a good color if it fits your wardrobe, but you can't buy a shit quality pair (spend the $$ to get something decent) because the black will fade quickly and look gross.

Asking what the best color is is a shit question, though. Has to fit your wardrobe.

going to assume you don't have much in the way of good basics

khaki, olive/military green, and black pants are versatile. /fa/ will tell you otherwise but joggers are also a good fit with runners. also, some light wash jeans, maybe distressed, will serve you well.

casual shoes: stans are versatile and the answer many will give you, and they won't break the bank also look at Ultra Boosts or NMDs for the comfy runner hype, Asics Gel Lyte 3s or Reebok Classics, or as always Vans are a good fallback. My current to-cop list contains some white + gum bottom Reebok Leather Classics and some black vans Old Skools. Air Max 90s look great with joggers or jeans and have a lot of versatile colorways.

as far as other basics, longline tees to layer, a flannel, an olive or black bomber from H&M.

These pieces can all be picked up cheap at H&M or other stores and are all versatile.

Yeah it is worth it. There's a good chance if you buy acne thins (pic related) you won't have to tailor them. If the taper isn't enough for you (6" leg opening on size 30 waist) then try nudie skinny lins. Only .2" difference in leg opening in 30" waist but makes a big difference desu
