all I want in life is a pair of dark brown 1000 miles, though I could also settle for the iron rangers. having a hard time finding them at a decent price though, them being american and all make them a bit harder to find in Europe. capital of sweden only has like 3 stores that sell them, and they seem to be phasing them out.

Anyone from the U.S have experience with Solovair? I ordered a pair of boots there 8 days ago and within those 8 days the admin said they couldn't fulfill my order due to the particular style and size being popular, so they put said style back into production. They told me to make it clear as to whether or not I want to wait or to exchange styles. I messaged them saying that I wanted to wait, but I wanted to at least get an estimate for how long waiting for the shoe's making would take. They have, up to this point, not responded to me at all. Should I be worried?

I bought docs a few months ago and they're solid for the price. You won't find a lot of good alternatives for that kind of money. They just suck at the beginning because they're made of cheap leather that is coated with some poly-shit that makes them stiff. I stuffed them and covered them with towels and then bashed the shit out of them with a rubber mallet. Afterwards they're soft as butter and comfortable to wear. I advise you not to listen to these kids and just try on a pair.

I'd like them to be USA made, and with a sole that has a visible wooden lining and not just the same color as the boot.

People will compliment things that are noticeable (and IRs certainly fit the bill) - so I don't know that I'd use that as the best metric.

I would never wear IRs with a suitg, but that's just me. There are (more formal) boots out there that I think would be a better fit for that.

i dont like them at all, sole is very clunky and you can tell at a glance the leather is fairly low quality. they probably won't last more than a season. save up a bit longer, and get yourself a pair of these, which are much better quality, better value for money, and will last years if you treat em well: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/red-wing-heritage-9197-6-postman-boots-leather-factory-2nds-for-men~p~151xw/?filterString=s~red-wing%2Fmens-boots~d~137%2F

they are seconds which means they didnt past the quality control to be considered firsts to go on shelves, but they're usually always solid. i got a pair of 2nds of red wing 875s that weren't noticeably different from firsts after a few wears.make sure you get the sizing right if you do buy these. there's plenty of info on reddit or styleforum about red wing sizing.

I'm assuming by the fact that you referenced a job that you actually have money to spend. If so, see below for some recommendations on higher quality boots (all GYW I believe). Note, what you seem to want are "leather sole" boots.

For sizing boots you can't try on in person you should be able to go to a Nordstrom's or other AE seller and get sized on a popular last there and then use this information to compare to sizes in other brands. Look on other style forums for references between Brannock and AE last sizing and the target boot sizings. Or just go MTO and work with the maker to make sure the last and size work for you.

Note, costs are mostly based off of MSRP, but 1ks, RWs, AEs, etc all go on sale fairly frequently and can be picked up for low cost prices (esp. for 2nds). I've left off the higher cost ones with the expectation that if you're dropping >500 on a boot you know better than to be looking to /fa/ for advice.

Low cost:
Golden Fox
Meermin
Various MTO Indonesian

Mid Cost:
Red Wing (Beckman)
AE
Wolverine (1Ks)
OSB (see Trench Boot)
MTO Pacific NW (White's/Nick's)
Danner
Dayton

12103145

A couple years ago I found this "Red Tape" nonsense (pic not taken by me, but related) on sale for $50. They were comfy as fuck so I pulled the trigger. I've enjoyed the living shit out of them ever since, to the point that the heels are worn down and the soles have started to differentiate into their individual layers.

Apart from being comfy as fuck, they had the bonus of creating the illusion that I wore nice shoes. My actual nice shoes (currently some cap toe Florsheims) are more or less reserved for funerals and job interviews, but I'd wear these around friends and family, even my girlfriend at the time, and they'd say "hey where'd you get those nice shoes?" Nobody fucking comments on my shoes, ever, except to point out that they're literally disintegrating and I'm standing there in a puddle of scraps and disappointment. Which is to say, this was a refreshing and positive change in my life.

Anyway, I'm shopping around for replacements and most of my comparable finds so far are either awful quality (according to reviews) or in the neighborhood of $200 to $300 US. In a few cases, like Thursday Diplomats, they manage to be both. So I just thought I'd ask you folks for either general tips or specific suggestions, with full acknowledgement that I have no idea what I'm doing and I'll probably die.

i wanted a pair too, almost considered a pair of knock-offs sold by Varusteleka but they didn't have my size in stock for a good while. Ended up going with 1490's in black (i got the for cheap, around 120€).

Dang it, i want these to become more common, they look so fucking good.

probably posted a few times in other threads but, I'm looking to buy boots (never owned any before) and I heard milsurp is probably the best option.

these all all the boots I know of (minus nike sfbs) and I wanted to know which would be best and most versatile for casual fits. I like the look of most of these and SLP Combats are probably my ideal boot look but ann d's look great too.

Wanted to know if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what type of boots would be best to buy and where to buy em (Uk preffered), I need some cheapish boots (sub £100 for now to start off). Anyone have an idea? any help is appreciated.

They look cheap. See: sunken in seam along the side, the weird patent contrast, the ill-fitting sole on the heel.
They're also ugly. See: weird elongated toe, the large plastic button, the awkward not-quite-high heel that says "I think I'm ladylike but I actually don't care enough about my body to pay enough attention to buy well-designed pieces so now I'll just stand out in high school/college by pretending to stand out from the crowd"

I got a pair of 6" moc toes and I like them a lot so far. personally I avoided anything with a round toe cause I find they look like dress shoes with pant legs down and I hated that, but its your choice. the quality is very good though. there are some faggots online debating their merit as a work boot, but you would have to be retarded to use $300 full grain leather boots for manual labour lol. I just use a cheap steel toe pair for work. I paid 170 for mine but that was at 50% off sale at Nordstroms in Canada.

Only own a pair in suede. I love the style of them, and they're quite durable. I mean I don't treat them as roughly as I do my normal winter boots, but they've held up over the years. I think they're still made in Italy, if that's something you care about. I've heard they have phenomenal customer service, too.

Downsides were I hate the sole. It was those lightweight morflex ones. Extra slippery and I prefer a heavier boot overall, so the balance felt off. They don't all use those soles though, so this may be moot. Also the laces fell apart really quickly. But who cares about laces.

So I need a new conditioner for my LL Bean Katahdins. I can't remember what i used to use. I recall emailing LL Bean about it a few years back and I also saw somebody on plebbit mention it when I was researching conditioners, but for the life of me I can't remember. (Came in an orange tube, had a purple cap if anybody remembers what I'm talking about.)

Anyways, I need a new product. I live in a place where it snows often, but not like I trudge through snow on a regular basis. It's between Lexon (never heard of it until now) and mink oil, leaning towards mink oil since I would imagine it offers better water proofing and a more consistent coloring. Thoughts, /fa/?

Don't mind a bit of darkening or anything, unless it turns my boots pitch fucking black or something.

Nikwax makes a wax-based proofing thing. Works well, depending on how well you can get the stuff into the seams. It does have a purple cap, but a white tube. Grangers used to have orange in their packaging, I think.

Mink oil only helps somewhat when it comes to providing water resistance. It's not terrible, and usually quite cheap, but it's definitely not the best stuff out there.

They conditioned, sure but they kinda defaulted to a dullish brown. I bought some saphir renovatuer and renomat to clean a vintage pair of red wings, and might use that to condition my newish (a year ago I replaced the lug sole with the cap toe because ****fashion****) katahdins. it seems like it'll do good.
