I was talking to my Canadian friend and he said that wearing suit jackets with jeans is commonplace and socially acceptable in Canada.

Is this socially acceptable where you are? Would you wear it? How often do you see such dress?

>> No.13349669

It's pretty acceptable in San Francisco. Most Tech Owners are the most casual people in the world.

>> No.13349676

I’d say acceptable but it’s not fashionable at all. I personally think it looks like shit.

Nah it was in reference to former Canadian PM Steven Harper wearing this stuff in a lot of formal photo shoots. I thought it was very strange and the media here would, rightly, mock him for it if he ever dared wear such awful attire.

Tweed and denim is fine. Silk and maybe fine wool isn't a good combo. Lots of people actively do things that don't look good. It happens.

In Arizona it can be commonplace. We need business casual over here. Anything to keep the heat at bay.

I can get wanting to be more casual with a sports coat, but just wear more casual chinos or trousers.

France, small town, socially accepted. I wouldn't wear it as I'm just a student, my professors are dressed more casual so I don't see it that often, but a good amount of people wear it in

So I am alone in thinking this actually looks really good? It's just formal enough to look nice but just casual enough to not make you seem like a try hard.

I notice that a Blazer and tie gets me a lot more second looks from women than a shirt alone or a more casual jacket.

It looks infinitely better with a trouser in the same material as the jacket.

Going from a rich jacket fabric to denim is jarring. It looks silly and confused. Even worse when paired with sneakers

I agree if it's a jacket like left pic, looks like half a suit got amputated at the waist. But imo courser fabric like right pic works, it's the right color to go with denim too and gets tied in by the shoes and belt

I'm from holland, I'd used to work part time at suit supply when I was in college and I would say that 90% of the men over here wear suit jackets or blazers ocasionally with jeans. Looks shit imo but its just formal/office wear for most people.

They both look like sport coats to me, tbqh. Tweed or herringbone on right, corduroy or moleskin/microfibre/velveteen on the left. In the 'Murikun south, it's mostly seasonal. Folks dress down in the summertime. Jackets kick in during the fall. Common college campus look.

Most definitely. But you need to keep the jacket casual. Thus don't go for a navy blazer or a suit jacket (unless the suit is a casual suit), it will look horrible due to the difference in formality. Rather go for something with patch pockets and a more casual fabric. I also suggest only wearing jeans with little or no wash in a dark color with the jacket.
