Use the jomashop filters to find something more your style. For better filters check out chrono24 - it is a used watch site but will give you a good idea of what is available and maybe ideas for the future. Better to seek out a watch you actually want, save for it and be happy with your purchase than pinching pennies and buying another worthless piece of junk that you will force yourself to like and write endlessly about.

The accutron 2210 was created in 1973, well over a decade after the first accutron 214 and at a point when the writing was clearly on the wall for tuning forks. Bulova as a company did not strategically position themselves for the quartz crisis. They made a half heartes attempt with the accuquartz 224, but it was too little, too late.

Guys, I don’t know much about mechanics but I’m back from the service center.

The guy told me my shitter had low amplitude and I needed to change de mouvement. It’s still under warranty so it’s free but what does it mean low amplitude and how can this happen to a new watch?

>> No.13521639

>>13521608
https://www.watchtime.com/reference-center/glossary/amplitude/

>Amplitude is the measure of the amount of rotation in the swing of the balance wheel, in either direction, usually expressed in degrees. In a running watch, the balance wheel swings or rotates clockwise and counterclockwise. Each swing in either direction is called a “beat”. Amplitude is the number of degrees of rotation of the beat. Amplitude is higher, typically in the range of about 270 to 315 degrees, when a watch is lying flat or in the “dial up” or “dial down” position. Amplitude usually falls when the watch is in a vertical position, primarily due to increased friction. Amplitude can also fall as the watch winds down and the mainspring delivers less power. Amplitude that is too high or too low, or that changes too much in different positions, can indicate a problem with the movement.

So I put a cheeky little bid on this one after I saw one that I really wanted go for over a 100 €.
Seller listed it as parts / repair, description said it works sometimes and sometimes not with pics of it working as intended.
I thought it would be a relative simple contact job to get it running properly, but oh was I wrong.

Firstly it didn't appear to work at all, so I cleaned the contacts etc and tried again. Partially working now, but it wasn't consistent so I took it open again and tried adjusting the contact points the buttons make as it seemed they were making contact all the time, they had some metal pins that are in contact with the buttons and the current is transferred by the case itself, weird fucking design.
I couldn't get the pins to stay off from the buttons (they had metal around them with little pieces of metal protruding towards the pins), so I decided it was designed the wrong way and I bent the protruding parts completely off, not it was close.
Still I couldnt get a decent reliability with them so I just soldered them in my frusturation and I get the time display button to work reliably, but the settings button still wont respond.
I tried checking the leads in the pcb trying to understand where the fault might be, to no luck yet.

Yeah I know mate, I checked this with a loupe and all the wire bond contacts seem good, also all the segments are good.

In this pic you can see a part which I suspected of being faulty, but to my current knowledge it works fine, it's just misaligned a bit.

Also, crazy where the times when they didn't protect the chips with resin, the main chip has it but some of the others do not.
To add to that, why did they decide to use the case itself as the means to transfer current? Fucking stupid imo.

If I get the adjustment working I will be happy with it. If anyone has some ideas, I would be glad to hear them.

>Japs where not big in the led market
I don't think they had faith in the technology, and were already gearing up for LCD production. Also unlike LED watch manufacturers in the USA and Europe (sans Switzerland) the producers of early quartz watches in Japan were traditional watchmaking companies rather than electronics manufacturers (with exception to Casio who I believe started with LCD altogether), so they probably didn't have manufacturing technology for LED watches as readily available.

Also LCD is just plain superior to LED, Japanese LCD wiped out the American LED watch industry ten times worse that what analog quartz did to the Swiss mechanical industry.

Meanwhile the Soviet industry remained mostly unaffected till the mid 80's.

I was not saying LED is in any way better than LCD, I mostly wear LCD watches and desu completely honest, from a technical standpoint it is the optimal technology for a watch, which unfortunately lead to it's downfall when normies shunned them for having too many features packed in one watch.

Soviets lagged behind of the "free world", imo their quartz are not worth it, some of their mechanicals are good though.

I am more or less settled on getting the T101.410.11.051.00 (pic). Local jeweler has it for $400 aud.
Is that the going price, or is it possible to find it cheaper? I don't know the ins and outs of watch prices.

I like soviet watches because it gives you something that was made in a country that no longer exists anymore and used to be a super power at that. It collapsed before I was born. Are Tourbillons a meme? I get that they're mechanically interesting. But so is a chronograph, or an alarm, a minute repeater, or any other complication; but none of those complications demand a huge hole in the dial. Tourbillion served a purpose in pocketwatches, in that they counter the effects of inaccuracy due to gravity for the balance wheel. In wrist watches they are not serving the same purpose because you wear them on the hand Therefore they are sort of a meme complication in wristwatches, but they look cool. However, in high horology JLC have made a "flying" tourbillion, which will rotate in several axes, and they do actually essentially eliminate positional variance, so they are not a meme. But then again, you can't really afford it.

In a certain sense having a mechanical watch at all is a meme. Only when you have realized the point of it all is to demonstrate what can be done without a circuit, the meld between beauty and functionality, can you appreciate complications.

You can position it away from the watch and it will stay put. The metal ring is held by the pointless flappy part that comes on every NATO which I personally cut off to reduce the watch's sit height.

Quality leather straps will be processed over many days, as much as 20-30 days, through all 80-100 processes, usually handmade to ensure quality. It is a ridiculous notion that you would be able to buy quality leather for just 30 dollars. There are definitely many who won't know the difference or think that their straps are good quality even if they only payed 30-40 dollars somewhere online, but they'd be wrong. If someone in here will claim this, just remember what I'm telling you now: they're wrong.
