Don't know about the exteriors, but for a clone movement it's usually these:

>teeth of automatic wheels not teflon-coated.
Pic is a genuine movement.

As for externals, most of the times the bracelet screws aren't as fine and precise as on the originals, they can be a pain in the dick to unscrew.

Quality of the finish, cyclops magnification, the inner ring and the hidden crown laser etchings, the sound of the ticking, weight etc etc. Honestly most I've seen you can tell straight away if you seen enough real Rolexes. ofc they still fool normies.

if it has a diamond you can always use a diamond tester. Rolex doesn't use fake diamonds.

If it's a chronograph, you can see if one of the dials are immobile. Or if you reset it, do the hands instantly snap back to 0, or do they quickly wind back to 0?

Or you can say you want to buy a Rolex too and try to talk him into going with you to the boutique so he can give you some of his expert Rolex advice. I'm sure the people who work there will be able to tell if his is fake.

Focal points of a camera can make watches look 1.25 times the size they really are and can make it look like the lugs over hang when in reality they don't.

At the end of the day it really comes down to if you feel it's too big, it is hard to tell from photos to be honest but it looks close to fitting well so likely looks pretty good in real life. iirc the 42 is including the crown guards so the watch does wear smaller than 42 if that helps

If you don't service a watch you expose it to a lot of unnecessary wear on the movement. The lubricants used have a shelf life and things like gaskets need to be changed regularly in order to maintain the integrity of the seal. A watch that hasn't been serviced regularly could be keeping good time, but without regular cleaning and oiling the movement will eat away itself
