I did use minoxidil at first but I don't think I was a responser to it. Plus my hair loss is very all I really needed to do was maintain, not regrow. I used to use a ketoconazole shampoo too but I don't think it did a lot for me. I do recommend it if you have an itchy scalp though.

If you have major male hair loss on either parents side and you're in your 20s you should just start taking finasteride regardless because it will hit you like a brick wall and you won't even realize it before it's too late. It takes months for the medication to begin working so by the time you notice it, it can be too large for some people.

I wish I would've started taking it at 21/22. I would still have a completely full head of hair. Instead I started taking it at 24 and it stabilized, but only after the damage was done. Now I'm thinking I bought as well shave it all off anyway because I didn't save enough of it for it to matter.

I'm coming here as both a warning and as encouragement. The pic attached was me at 22 the year before i joined the army. This is with only 1 years worth of fin.. i was basically just at a damage control stage at that point. After doing my service (it's mandatory in my country) i realized that a bald cut quite suited me and actually made me work / want to improve upon other aspects of myself.

Do i wish i stll had the lush blonde locks which i once had? Of course! But the difference is I realized that my hair doesnt define me as a person and after taking shaving my head i can honestly say nothing monumental has changed in my life. If anything i am less insecure and more confident than I've ever been before.

I'm 34 and I have only receded corners so far and I've always worn shoulder length hair parted in the middle, so they get 'combed over' and aren't as noticeable.

If it ever gets worse, I'd probably shave. Maybe if I keep my hair until my 40s, I'd consider a transplant to fill out the corners if it's not too invasive. But honestly I'm coming to peace with the outlook of someday saying goodbye to it all.

You could use Rogaine that'll grow the hair back, however once you start using it you need to keep doing it. If you stop, the hair you grew back will fall out. This is because whatever chemical Rogaine replenishes, your body says "Wow I'm getting this chemical here, so I don't need to make it anymore!" and so it just stops. Not sure if this'll cause other neighboring hair to fall out too, though.

Regardless: Stick to Rogaine but don't stop once you do. That, or get surgery where they pull your ass hairs out and plop them in one by one. Whatever.
