Cook here. It might seem /fa/ but it's actually terrible.
Long hours, usually 12 hours every day, hot working conditions under high stress the entire time. At any sort of busy establishment it's prep early in the morning and then balls to the wall non-stop until you close. By that point you're sweaty, dirty and tired and your feet hurt like hell. Then you clean up and reset it to do it all over again the next day.
You go home and drink and then do it all over again the next day. It's actually miserable unless you're a top chef at some really high class place in a big city. Otherwise it's shit.
