Will suits ever loosen up again? We've had the same 2 button slim fit suits for the last 15 fucking years now.

Button stances are slowly getting higher, with the 3/2 roll becoming more commonplace. I would not be surprised to see 3 button suits come back into fashion over the next 5-10 years. I doubt that we'll move back to 80s/90s bagginess, but honestly those were largely baggy because many who bought OTR suits didn't bother to get them tailored (including the guy in your picture, OP - look at how long his sleeves are, which is a dead giveaway).

The only real faults of most modern mens OTR suits are overly narrow lapels and too-tight pants.

thank god this seems to be slightly correcting recently. the slimmer fits were good but we went a little too far

To some extent, maybe. But 8"+ drops on jackets and trouser legs at 6-7 inches (or less!) rarely work on those who aren't naturally skinny (i.e. not just fit or athletic, but legit skinny). Suit pants and slacks should not fit you like skinny jeans, and jackets should not pull at the waist.

>> No.14359500

Like other anons in the thread have said, just do it. Wear some roomier suits. It's the only way for you to have an impact on the world fashion-wise if you're not someone important in the industry. I think that if you started wearing some, you might catch the eye of a few people who like them too and that could encourage them to try it.

You know what really needs to make a comeback? Short ties. They have to be able to be made cool somehow.

>> No.14359509

>>14359505
Not OP, but it's honestly hard to find 'roomier' suits that still fit in the shoulders correctly, because the current 'style' is to have a very suppressed waist. If OP wants to buy new suits, he'll have a harder time (not an impossible time, but not an easy one either). If he buys used suits, this isn't a problem, though the gorge height on 80s/early 90s suits is unfashionably low for today and will make the suit appear more dated than any roominess would.

if youre at all fit, you'll be able to find some baggier suits. just look for stores with chubbier models in their ads and look for a classic fit, your lack of a veer belly will translate into bagginess.

Ties must follow the trousers, a short tie like that would look ridiculous with modern low-rise trousers. Still I agree with you, long and narrow ties don't really look that good flopping all over the place, high-rise trousers and ties to match them need to make a comeback.

>>14359946
To and extent, but not really, a "baggy" suit shouldn't fit you like a potato sack around the waist. It should have ample room for the shoulders, wide and comfy trouser legs, but although roomy still follow the silhouette of your waist, you won't get that with buying a slim-fit suit made for a fat man.

Nor are mine, which is why I find slim fit trousers and sleeves very uncomfortable, but I see a lot of men (politicians and the like) wearing high-fashion slim-fit that do have thin arms and legs along with a gut, and they look ridiculous. An old fashioned cut suit would hide their faults rather than highlight them.
Also it makes men look like children, which I don't find very respectable.

Never understood this meme for high-waisted pants. Looks ridiculous. Like the picture. If i wore a high-rise pants, my tie would sure sit where it always sits: right above my dick.
