I think the coulour is different (one looks grey and the other one looks black) but when looking them up on ebay they are both listed as black.

Ball makes a ton of models in the same case and they do have some date only versions, but not this specific model with the COSC cert and the machined dial etc. I was indeed able to try it on, but it was in Tokyo, where you can find just about any watch imaginable. Yeah, it's quite dim compared to normal lume. You basically can't see it at all until it's dark enough that you can't read the watch without it, even in a relatively dimly lit room you'd think the tubes were just applied markers or something if you didn't know they were there. Once it does get dark enough, though, they look pretty spectacular.

Issue watches still exist but they're extremely rare, at least in the US military. Units have a limited annual budget and in most cases they'd have to sacrifice more critical stuff to pay for watches if they wanted to issue them. The only cases I've heard of in recent years where somebody actually got issued a watch were rare ones where a unit somehow ended up with a budget surplus at the end of the year and had to spend it on something.

In those rare cases the watches tend to be either Marathon CSAR/TSAR/etc. or various Suunto models, all of which have NSN numbers that aren't that hard to find.

that's what they get when they get too big for their britches and think they're the next Rolex. I've never handled a Panerai myself, but I've owned watches at similar or lesser price points. Every time I do a mental comparison I can't think of anything positive about them compared to their "peers." I wouldn't be opposed to getting a <$500 or less Panerai Clone with an ETA however.

Sadly it seems Rolex is doomed to make the same mistakes Panerai made and attempt to move upmarket to a niche occupied by the PP Aquanaut, SS or PM pieces that are extremely pricey and hard to get. As much as I love Rolex, they're going to get absolutely assholed when this bubble bursts.

I totally agree "waitlists" are more a function of spend vs. numerical order, but it makes sense why they prioritize a regular customer. 1) try to minimize flippers and 2) ensure continued business from the known customer (vs. betting on maybe getting future business from a first-timer)

Nothing wrong with wanting an SS as your first watch (they're popular for a reason) and AD practices are definitely putting off new customers, but if they give out a hot model to a first-timer over a regular, I'm sure that would tick a lot of people off

I've heard this many times before, I don't quite buy it. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Rolex solely increase production of their hard to get SS models for a period of two years. I'm certain that a competent, wealthy and popular brand like Rolex could find a myriad of ways to increase production that would benefit them, but they choose not too because their margins are probably too good right now and they're riding the gravy train. Let's be honest, if sales slumped significantly you can bet your ass that they'd be churning those shitters out and having AD's call every single contact in there phonebook begging for a sale.

We need to stop painting Rolex as a misunderstood saint and victim. While not directly complicit, they refuse to anything to relieve the current glut.

The core issue behind all this is the brands simply don’t produce enough to meet demand, and the ADs are just trying their best to allocate. When the waitlists for a Pepsi are 5-7+ years and the AD only get a few each year there’s only so much they can do. Kinda no way around it. With chronographs the pivots for the subdial hands are kinda in the way for the day and date discs.

Pic related, on the Speedy Mk. IV there's a noticeable gap between the day and date window.

First Vostok i owned was a 420 and i have to admit i'm fond of the case, but the 670 is far superior. It's similar to the in size 120 but the shape looks better, like the older Amphibias from the 80's.

Though if you have a sub 7inch wrist you shouldn't go over the 710 or 420 case Amphibia's since the lug to lug is much longer same applies to the 670. Closest compairson is this old pic of spares i sold ages ago, might have a better one if i dig deeper.

The AD never sent the watch to Tudor. He sent it to a friend to repair while lying and saying he mailed it to Switzerland for repairs. The AD literally held on to it for weeks to make him think it was being shipped back and forth from Switzerland
The AD lied, got caught in his lie and lied some more. Then he lied even more saying that Tudor was upset and wanted him to delete the video which was completely false.
Tudor had no part to play in that fiasco and is innocent of any wrong doing. It was completely on the sketchy lying AD.
