Anyway, the clothes parts were:

- Idk, probably random daily wear
- Pop's Leather flight jacket, old Patagonia Capilene 2 snap henley, and a pair of dumpstered Cheap Monday jorts
- as close an approximation of normal business wear as I could manage

The random daily wear was probably the most visually cyberpunk, and working now as a messenger I'm regularly teched out, but yeah, life's funny like that.

100% wool but with magnetic buttons and reflective thread. The also makes you think of something a sci-fi movie villain could have worn.

Slightly considering this given I need something I can wear over a suit, but that also works causally since I seldom wear suits. It's 600 euro but I know from experience they know how to make weather-resistant wool clothing.

Not much desu.

Most often I modify old electronics to use standard 5v usb power instead of x AA, AAA, etc. batteries and so on.

I got a pretty big reaction for casting my phone screen to a friends tv... (for iPhone users without apple tv this is tends to be seen as sci-fi)

Using Linux anywhere in public feels cyberpunk as long as no one realizes that you're doing the same shit as them but with 10x the button presses they'd use.

Techwear is advanced (clothing) technology. Plenty of fabric advancements done by nasa and the military in several countries have been at some point released to the general public. Well, cyberpunk is not something that exists outside a creative genre. Its all a fantasy. That is why I specifically said "in the future" whatever future that is.

Also, plenty of extremely advanced technologies are available now for cheap. A few hundred years ago afordable synthetic waterproof materials were impossible. You have low priced breathable lightweight materials as opposed to wool. It all depends where in the spectrum of technological development you stand. How many people could afford glasses when they were first invented? Lenses were cutting edge at some point, now you can buy them for 30 bucks at the mall.

I understand the concept behind techware and see the appeal, all I'm saying is that what seems advanced today could potentially be standard 150 years from now in a dystopian facebook run society.

You're exactly the problem I'm talking about. I understand the idea that if the idea of what cyberpunk is that it'd be too vague and encompassing too much for it to be a specific genre but obviously people have a different understanding of what cyberpunk is

Defining cyberpunk by just sitting around and complaining about techwear is really not doing anything productive

>> No.14892650

You're exactly the problem I'm talking about. You don't understand that just because people have a different understanding of what cyberpunk is, doesn't mean that their understanding is correct or that it should be tolerated.

>Defining cyberpunk by just sitting around and complaining about techwear is really not doing anything productive
No but it's doing something far more important: preventing normalfags from circlejerking their normalfag fits.
Preventing bad shit from happening is more important than allowing good shit to happen and right now, the utmost priority is disrupting non-cyberpunk shit.

>> No.14892652

There cannot be any good threads until there's enough gatekeeping to make sure that everyone has the correct understanding of what cyberpunk is and the only way to do that is verbatim 'consime a ton of cyberpunk media' even though there's a wider variety of cyberpunk media than what you describe

>not only have I not described cyberpunk media
Yes I'm completely aware. You have said that you have to have a specific understanding by consuming media, and then refuse to say which media. So when I bring up that there is an incredibly wide variety of cyberpunk media you say that I'm establishing a difference between 'legit cyberpunk media' and what you claim is not 'legit cyberpunk media'

You see the problem here?

What is the 'legit cyberpunk media' and what makes something legit cyberpunk media

I'm sure you'll just say something retarded like 'If you don't know the legit cyberpunk media you might as well quit' or something like that because you yourself don't even have an actual concrete list of what is 'accepted cyberpunk media'

Wouldn't that mean that you'd need more knowledge on classic punk and rivethead media/aesthetics than cyberpunk? Why would you even bother focusing on cyberpunk if at its core it's just rivethead/punk? Can something be cyberpunk without crossing over into rivethead/punk area?

You said before 'there's no such thing as stylistic evolution, only the appearance of a new style in the place of an older one' so is it the case that cyberpunk is just the new punk/rivethead?

Cayce wouldn't wear Solovairs. The stitching brands it, and IIRC she's actually nearly always wearing fairly feminine footwear – for some reason people seem to "read" her style as aggressively androgynous, I don't know if it's the prominence of the MA-1 or what, but IMO that's just completely unsupported by the text. There's one scene where, trying to amp herself up, she goes "relatively gender neutral" and puts on a specific ensemble *that she has to buy new items for* and is like "walk like a man" to herself. Otherwise? "Skirt thing," leggings, "Harajuku schoolgirl shoes."

She's about neutrality, yes, but not in a gender way, more like a no-projections, background-y – really, in 2002 being gender neutral wouldn't have fallen into the background at all.

(Tbc this isn't anything against gender neutrality or androgyny – I think it's great and often go for it myself. But it's just not Cayce.)

What's your take? Neuromancer obviously is his most influential and impactful, but even as a big fan I have to admit that it's not that well written. Cyberpunk novels in general aren't exactly well written, but I love the themes and ideas they create and explore. The Bridge trilogy to me feels more (current) cyberpunk and is better written, but I found most of Idoru pretty annoying. All Tomorrow's Parties, Zero History and Pattern Recognition I think are Gibson at his best, they just don't happen to be Neuromancer. How would you rank his books?

>> No.14894108

>>14894093
neuromancer has great imagery but is horribly written. it lags in so many places and just has stilted writing that is not interesting or enjoyable to read. count zero he clearly had much better editors provided by his publisher to sort his shit out. the bridge trilogy is definitely his best written and most relevant. pattern recognition is juvenile, ridiculous because he's removed any fantasy that may be explained away by high technology and instead replaces it with almost fan fiction tier adventures of a woman as seen through his middle aged male brain. it's both sexist and racist while trying to be woke. zero history was even worse.
i'd hold count zero and virtual light as his two best in that they are much more palatable to read, both have great cyberpunk imagery (let's just forget about the cringe super AIDS part in virtual light) and are relatively devoid of gibson's self insert projection that riddled blue ant

>> No.14894114

I think I like Blue Ant because I used to live in London from 2004 to 2010 and work as a creative director for a design agency, so most of it felt relatable and I had visited some of the places myself which helped immersing myself into the story. Had I more "distance" to the subject matter I think I would feel the same as you. Just curious what makes it racist? I like that he tried working outside of the cyberpunk bracket and I enjoyed the sense of paranoia and tension that I felt through all three novels (Spook Country less so than the other two, but still).

Didn't read Peripheral or that steampunk crap, and don't plan on doing so. Peripheral sounds amazingly bad.

That's probably a result of the forums or the culture of the company you're keeping. If it's fashionable, and you're not going to be doing anything active, I'd say they're fair game. See, back when Kitanica first launched, they actually advertised in gun culture and firearms review magazines. It caught on really quick though that nothing they designed was actually conducive to concealing a firearm on your person, or doing anything outdoors. I'm not saying you can't make it work, I'm just saying that my feedback comes not from an fashion point of view, but a function point of view. The brand strikes me as "anime protagonist" fashion anyway. Sorry for my deluge, I actually came here to lurk so I could learn, but sort of went off mentally when I saw the brand.

Gonna cop this pattern and attempt to make the hooded variant. I'll patch it lightly with my ever growing collection, probably some vague Asian philosophical glyph patches.

I'll use a hard wearing, slightly textured fabric. A denim, or a cotton drill. Something that between washes can develop a nice grungy patina. When the cold comes again I'll layer her with one of my armored jackets but for now she'll be used with a belt and a molle bag. It'll be nice.

What this guy is concerned about C8 and C6 are not whats coated on the fabric, these are byproducts of producing the coating, that unfortunately get dumped too much in regular waste streams. Wearing DWR fabrics is not harmful for your health.

Are sling bags/single strap backpacks too larpy? I kinda want one just for the convenience desu.

Hey, /k/ poster here again. I've used both. Honestly, if you're just going to walk around a college campus with one text book and a notepad, then a slim single strap is fine. If you want to go out in the woods, or carry a lot with you, definitely go two strap.

weak take. the acg alpine is the grandfather of this whole scene

sure, after acronym's designer left in like early 2018 the line went downhill but the acg collection in the years before that is STILL the epitome of this sect of fashion

respect your elders

BDUs cut off below the knee, canvas boots, tank top with mesh t shirt, and some futuristic sunglasses. Get a punk or rivethead hairstyle for good measure.

This is a cyber thread, nobody cares about the so-called techwear "scene".
If I need to be waterproof I'll wear a surplus ECWCS.

Get thin jackets, roll up the sleeves, scrawl patch and pin cyber shit onto them. Wear coloured or reflective sunglasses. If that doesn't do it for you wear baggy milsurp pants and singlets or something. Find something that you like the look of and be sure to make the style your own somehow.

Has anyone had any experience with rothco products? Their navy blue coveralls lookin as nice as my pattern, plus I can bundle a few of their bombers with the order if it goes down.

Can confirm their bombers are good value. I don't like their BDUs at all though. They shrink horribly after a wash or two. I would be very skeptical about buying their coveralls.
