Have any of you tried adding haori/noragi/kimono-adjacent clothing to your wardrobe?
Thoughts on doing so?

I own a bright orange one. I used it a few times while in Japan, have yet to wear in my own country. Not only do i feel like a huge weeb; its 3/4 sleeve length and heavier fabric limits the season i can wear it.
Its my mistake for buying it in orange vs a neutral one but for 30 bucks from a vintage shop, it seemed like a steal.

Cultural appropriation

Sorry, I know it sounds dumb, but do you really want angry zoomers calling you out in public ? Don't do it unless you're Asian.

Seems like other POC can pull them off.

3/4 sleeve is appealing
I'm looking at light, pure silk ones to throw over button-up shirts tucked into linen trousers in spring/summer

patterns seem okay but bright orange would be way too much.. that must be a loud piece

>>15893661
the patterned one looks 10x better than solid black, weird

I drape a blankey over myself sometimes. It's more versatile than a jumper as you can adjust where is covered/length. Much easier to take off too. Although I only wear it inside ofc.

>blankey
I meant blanket! I realise it probably seems somewhat immature regardles, but I DO NOT call it a blankey...

Texturally i cant stand silk, i think my hands are always too dry or something. But i think they're more practical for actual wear. Especially considering how heavy the one i have is.

Yeah its very loud but i liked the patterning. If i never get around to wearing it; it looks like i could easily resell it for 100 bucks.

this is very cringe if you're not japanese

especially on blacks lol

sounds like maximized comfiness. maybe I should look into blanket-like shawls instead.
would be even more feminine than a haori though so idk

>>15893699
all the kimono/haori in curated secondhand stores here start around $100 minimum.
definitely importing from Japan for half that

I thought it looks fine on blacks; because your average person might not know japanese patterns from african

Can pull it off if you have confidence. Don't buy cheap ones if you are deciding to go down this route. I'd recommend FDMTL or Visvim Haori jackets

>> No.15894658

I wear a full kimono on occasion. Haoris are great even in hot weather due to silk being quite cooling and vintage embroidery is a plus. Try Japanese auctions to get them under 20$

have you bought any of the ~2k yen ones?
I see them going for that much on y.jp constantly, which is what spurred my interest.
seems like a great way to add more stuff to my agent's order and hopefully make shipping sting a bit less

>> No.15894689

I used to have a plain black noragi. I think they go well with modern fits, they layer nicely. They don't fit my aesthetic anymore but if you wear modern streetwear (or street-wear inspired) I think they work well.

i just got an old kendo gi but it's too small... it also wasn't that comfy because the sashiko fabric is so stiff, but on the other hand it seems more or less indestructible
i think i'll go for a haori or hanten next because it seems comfier for just staying inside
