>Chanel’s greatest achievement is perhaps their miraculous ability to live two separated-at-birth lives that do not intersect: one spent lounging in the back of a long-wheelbase Bentley, the other hanging on to a ceiling strap in the evening commute. Bleu de Chanel brings them perilously close together, with a composition that borrows shamelessly from Cool Water and Light Blue, yet manages to wrap all these bad-boy clichés in a disarming cloud of refinement. If there is a masculine perfume that embodies the symmetric aspirations of the poor and the spoiled, this is it.

excellent comment.what are your favourite fragrances and/or what have you sampled recently? I have a bottle of Rania J's Musc Muschous and Parfum d'Empire's Cri de la Lumiere in the post right now. For my next samples I'm interested in trying Luca Maffei's work, I think he will be one of the the big upcoming names. Zoologist's Harvest Mouse, Aedes de Venustas' Amnesia Rose and Parco 1923's fragrances seemed all very interesting and are available to order from 50-ml.eu. Also interested in Bianchi's new work.

Le Cri was nice but was nowhere near as unisex as Turin made it out to be imo. A fun experience to smell but really not something I could see myself wearing, doubly so for those that dislike florals and with the french classical structure that Corticchiato is imbedded in I think you could find this leaning older as well. Are you buying a bottle after sampling or a sample? Would like to hear others takes on it and wanna retry it as well.

I smelled some Maffei in his Jacque Fath line-up and found them to be quite boring, I suppose it suits the brief; reinvigoration of a classic and refined line up for the modern age, but still, nice but nothing mind-blowing. I'm interested in his work with Mendittorosa though, they seem much more captivating from the few I got a chance to check out.

In terms of recent favs/purchases I got a bottle of Under Which Rivers Flow, very rich and warm, hard to nail down for me what exactly it is, just a rich mix of florals, woods, fruits, citruses, leans fruity chypre to me, nevertheless, gorgeous. Btw if not obvious I'm not the guy you replied to initially.

>Le Cri was nice but was nowhere near as unisex as Turin made it out to be imo
I agree, it's very Chanelish, much as a result of the aldehydes I guess. after a very longer amber/fougere phase I have integrated a lot of roses and irises into my rotation and kinda given up on the dichotomy between masculine/feminine frags

>Are you buying a bottle after sampling or a sample?
after going through a 5ml decant over 6months or so I still found myself enjoying it, so I decided to go for the 50ml - it's reasonable priced and I feel like it's not too bad to wear on a hot weather (since I don't have too many interesting non-citric frags to wear in the upcoming summer)

>I smelled some Maffei in his Jacque Fath line-up and found them to be quite boring
I agree - his older releases are very dull, but I feel like he has gone up in ranks (though, this is partly speculation and therefore I'm sampling the fragrances I previously mentioned). Mostly I'm interesting in the Aedes de Venustas fragrance as well as his release for Trussardi with Lie, but which does not seem to be available anywhere)

Spicy diabetes for girls. In theory, it's so good that everybody and their mother went out to clone or reiterate on it. An absolute success in that regard. Long lasting and powerful as well. It seems to be hit or miss with people, but I think most people who hate on it just do it because they know it has mass appeal and will be worn to death by everybody (or at least one of the millions of clones will be). The mass appeal comes from the insane sweetness of it, though.

I've found I don't care much about the masculine/feminine dichotomy but it definitely was more feminine imo and just didn't click, though I do want to try it again and see if I still think the same way, it has been a while. Regardless, do enjoy it man, definitely a very refined and interesting fragrance. Give a rundown on Musc Muschous as well.

In regards Fort and Manle, I tried to write something up but went way past word limit, I've tried to cut it down but just have far too much to say about the house. The short of it (as much as I can make it) is that I think F&M are a great house, perhaps my favourite, but they can be a bit samey and Rasei indulges too much in limited edition FOMO type bs which I find frustrating as a fan. His limited editions are oftentimes some of his best which is why it is annoying. Kolonya was his magnum opus imo.

In regards the similarities between the frags, I think it comes down to the fact F&M is a one man operation and Rasei has a very particular style, one which he doesn't really shed out of or try and change up between some of his releases. With that said many are standouts and they do differ. Other houses and perfumers engage in similar behaviour, oftentimes they have a distinctive style. I think Tauer has a certain quite recognisable quality to his works but still something to keep in mind. Rasei also discontinued and tightened up his main line up so maybe they're a bit less similar now coming in as someone new to the house, I'm not sure since I know his work from the days where his line-up was larger and a bit more redundant so still have that impression in my mind. I'm also very familiar with his lineup, including limited editions so I may see the similarities moreso than others perhaps.

Does anyone have any experience with the new bottles of PDM - perhaps Layton specifically?
A friend of mine bought one of these newer bottles (82% and a 7-digit batch code, used to be 78% and 6) after having used up his old one and he says he immediately noticed a drop in performance, both projection and longevity. He brought it to work to show me - applied it to his wrist around 9, and when we met up for lunch (we work in different departments) I could barely smell it on him, he had to hold his hand to my face for me to notice.
I remember walking into his office during the afternoon in the past where I'd be able to smell it before even talking to him, where he said he'd applied it before leaving in the morning. I'm asking because I was thinking of buying a bottle myself because that sounds amazing and the scent is/was great... but not so much now.
The new box he has also looks different, it doesn't look like picrel.

Does anyone else feel people obsess over tiny details that they wouldn't be able to perceive if they weren't spending extra effort to look for them? Or even worse, making them up?

I mean, I love fragrances, obsess over them even but in terms of how they make me feel wearing them, an original perfume is usually the same as one of it's clones.

Yes, if I have them side by side, I might smell a slight difference, and I can convince myself I like the more expensive one out of the two options.

But after I spray and get out about my day, I get slight whiffs of my perfume and I never think "Oh this is Clone XYZ, smells derivative" - I just think I smell like this scent and feel good about it.

the rose is heavy but mixed with the cirtus it's heavenly, the opening of burberry brit is just amazing. there's like 20 minutes where the citrus leaves and the rose is still very prominent where it smells a tad feminine but after that it mixes really well with the wood/tonka dry down and is just really mellow and earthy rose goodness. if you go into it thinking you smell like a feminine powder room you won't like it, but if you think of it as freshly pressed undershirts it is really great. it's a beautiful fragrance that is slept on because people haven't worn it enough and given it a chance. the rose is a little powdery but its fresh and clean, nothing like other powdery scents that are suffocating and cough-inducing. it's just powdery enough to really make it a nice comforting fall weather fragrance but it is a 3 season frag for sure, ( no summer, imo )

How's it smell to you? Personally for me it's a patchouli nuke which is probably where I'm getting the "blue" association from, along with the very slight maritime feeling. Dylan Blue also has a fuckton of patchouli but I would rather wear Kenzo Homme EDP over Dylan Blue or really any "blue" frag period. I just can't stand gassy/sour grapefruit and ambroxan anymore.
