Eh, at this point I give up with the anon BS.
In my personal experience it's always been posting regularly as often as possible.
I've never done FOTM or fanart in general, as I had this (dumb) idea that I want to make it with my art skills alone, without realizing that it's porn that brings the numbers.
I still prefer to draw OC, because making my clients happy is a really cool feeling.

The base premise is that the more you are visible, the more chances there are for you to land potential clients. I brute forced it by working like a madman (streaming every day, putting out content on a daily basis and building a fanbase), but there's definitely smarter ways to achieve that (pandering to bigger artists in hopes of getting retweeted, fotm and fanart, etc.).

I attached what I wrote a long time ago, and I still think it's a good "guide" for whoever wants to be a commission artist.

Appeal. Look what other artists you look up to do and try to emulate them.

What everyone is saying. All of the tactics mentioned imo should work to an extent.
I don't know if this is still relevant nowadays, but check pic attached. It's something I put together years ago when somebody asked me a similar question.

That elbow would work if the shoulder wans't so rotated/broken. I know what I have to do with the arm to fix it. I was asking if there's anything else that looks off.

>>4667393
Thanks for the redline, but I think the wrist is not an issue per se. I need to rotate the upper arm towards the viewer and the upper arm has to follow that. I was more wondering it anything else looks off.

Also, your demand sets your prices. You don't set them based on what your art looks like. Some people with atrocious art can sell for very high prices, simply because they have a huge following.
This is what you have to strive for. Become known to as much potential clients as possible.

My commissions journey went like this:
1) I set average prices based on how much time I spent on my artworks and how much I wanted to earn per hour.
2) People were okay with them and started requesting art.
3) After some time the demand was bigger than what I could handle, so I raised my prices.
4) People still kept flooding my inbox and I kept rising my prices.

In an alternate reality where people would stop asking for my services after I raise my prices too much, I would have to lower them in order to get enough work.

This is how commission prices work. At least in my experience.

The more people know about you, the bigger the chances your demand will get bigger too. BE PROLIFIC. Improve your art for yourself, not to get more money out of it. That's not how it works.

You need to have something to showcase first. I started by drawing stuff I was into and people that liked it as well started following me.
Then it's just a matter of being as prolific as possible so that you create enough exposure.
I was posting on tumblr and hentai foundry for about 2-3 weeks before I started getting commission inquiries.
Also, check pic attached. It's a thing I wrote a few years ago for somebody that asked me something very similar.

Speed is key imo. The more stuff you can post, the more exposure you create and the more chances there are for people that are willing to support you (commissions, patreon) to notice you.
I wrote a thing about this some time ago. Check pic attached.

>fucking embarassing that you would use your skill on porn
I like drawing porn. It's also a more secure way of making money. Win win.

Hm. It's hard to say what it really means to start gaining traction. I started a tumblr about 3 years ago (besides that I was posting on Hentai Foundry as well). My goal was to get commissions, and the first requests started coming in fairly soon. I think it took me a couple of months.
I think hentai foundry in general is a better place to showcase your stuff if you want to get a clientele. Tumblr is better for showcasing to the public in general. Recently it actually became less good, so I'd suggest you to post on twitter as well (if you decide to do that, don't use tumblr's built in twitter connection; people won't care about those and you won't build a following on twitter with that; you have to retweet manually).

Anyway, I started a patreon 2 years after creating my tumblr gallery.
At the time I had around 20k tumblr followers. Now 1 year and a few months later I'm at 68k.
Just remember that the more art you post, the more exposure you create and the more followers you gain (which means more potential fans that are willing to support you on Patreon as well). Pic attached is an answer to a tumblr ask I received some time ago. Maybe it'll help.

Activity rate most of all. By a huge margin. I never did a lot of fanart, unless you consider FF14 original characters to be fanart. I guess that's borderline fanart, now that I think about it.
Second factor was probably engagement with clients and fans (mostly while streaming on Picarto).
All the rest is optional. You need to have decent art of course, but quality of art and skills aren't -that- important imo.
I wrote a response to a tumblr ask about this some time ago. See pic attached.

This is in relation to starting a commissions career, but it's basically the same thing as starting a social media account.

Somebody on tumblr asked me a similar question not long ago. Pic attached is my response. Maybe it will help you.
