My expectations aren't really unrealistic, and I can easily make something kind of appealing if I stay within my comfort zone. I don't care very much about mistakes or any of that, I just want to be able to spend most of my time drawing without stupid psychological barriers holding me back, like boredom or getting tired. Most pro artists, including Kim Jung Gi himself, spend the majority of their free time drawing. Doesn't matter how, whether drawing from imagination, drawing random things they observe - the point is that they're always drawing, and clearly its a strong habit they've formed over time, but they had to want to draw all the time in the first place to get there. That desire and drive is what I really want in the end.

I just dont get it anymore. At first I drew to kill time. Then I drew for fun. Then I learned about fundies and started grinding. Now I'm good, I'm not stellar or anything but I'm good enough that I thought, "you know what? Maybe it's time i finally find a way to go about marketing myself". But I never got around to that. Then I got tired, god knows why and from what, I really don't work that hard (or at all). And I got very jaded, too. Asking myself, "Why do I even draw anymore?" To me it all just seems like pointless stupid lines on some fucking paper or digital canvas. It's imaginary. It's not real. It's useless to anyone and everyone. I don't get why anyone would ever buy art, let alone my art. I know I'd never buy anyone's art. I don't get the point anymore. People always talk about passions, and especially with drawing, you need to "draw what makes you happy". Nothing makes me happy. Drawing infuriates me, it's not even difficult but it's useless and pointless and stupid. Nonetheless, I feel like there's nothing else I can do. All my life and it's the closest thing to a meaningful skill I've got.

This doesn't even scratch the surface of what's been on my mind lately. Mentally and emotionally I'm in turmoil, thanks to external circumstances (pathetic ones, perhaps, but I am a pathetic man). I don't know what to do, I feel like a caged animal. Maybe I ought to see a therapist. Feel like I'd be "giving in" if I did, though. Sorry for the blog. Enjoy the rest of your day/night, anons.

DISCUSSION:

Is it necessary to take a drawing to a 110 percent finish (as much as you can) once in a while to gauge your current skills and what you are doing wrong?

This board has a lot of back and forth over turd polishing so I wanted to open a discussion on the matter to let you anons voice your opinions and personal experiences.

The only person of note from this board who I personally know has commented on the matter is tehmeh (olly), his view being that you need to push on an artwork as hard as you can to see what you're capable of (source: his discord, no screencaps, sorry!)

Personally, I would agree, adding that you don't know what you're missing until you really give it your all.

So, what do you think anons?

If i dont want my drawings to look american, then who do i go for instead of loomis?
Are there any good books from classicists or renaissance painters etc?
