You HAVE to do those drawings and designs and animations, in spite of your skill not being anywhere near where you want it to be. Take it from someone who's spent years in the being a good student and studying all the time route, you learn fastest when you make things from your mind and then study whatever you sucked the most at in that piece, and then do another one from mind. Really helped my motivation to study and do new pieces too, because it'd always be I'm doing X studies so that my next qt knight girl is better than this one.
