Priorities

I'm black and I mostly draw white people. Not because I hate blacks, but because that's the standard and I don't really care about race when I draw, I just go with whatever I want. But I guess Americans are so self-conscious about race nowadays that they get their political garbage involved even with art.

I generally dont like drawing black people because theyre stupid and obnoxious. Hard to convince me otherwise when you live in all black neighborhood where people get their cars broken into and tailgates stolen regularly and then people are screaming and smashing beer bottles till 4am every night/morning, and you have to walk through a crowd of these people just to get out of your apartment day or night. Race should just be a part of the design process. Consider what type of environment the character lives in, and the type of culture that would exist. You must work off stereotypes however, which sucks, but that's how it goes. Don't just make someone black because muh diversity. Does it fit the design? A good design depends on every element. A bad design is allowing something to be interchangeable. If you can swap the race and still have it read the same, you've just added race for the sake of adding it (unless it's like armor or something).

But draw whatever the fuck you want. Why let society determine what YOU want to draw? Just be careful how you conduct yourself and your communication skills. I'd say, as shitty as it might sound, it's better to be a racist on paper than a racist in personality. So go ahead and draw your anime asian women, no one really cares. I draw a lot of idealized women and haven't gotten any flak especially from my sjw friends...if that accounts for anything.

I find that its a lot harder to draw fourth or fifth generation German-Americans, because there's so little that defines their community in terms of dress. When I worked in a British-Canadian area, I drew a hell of a lot more people. Good reference is good reference however, and I'll notice anyone who manages to stand out.

Bigotry is the lack of tolerance of another opinion. It is not the dislike or mistrust of another race/religion.
Prejudice is the act of judging a person based on appearance rather than character. It's a completely natural thing because humans dress as they wish to be portrayed. Judging by skin color is a defense mechanism based on what you know of others of the same skin color - because they are likely influenced by the same culture as those others.
