yeah I always was planning on doing some Van Gogh knockoffs. Still not necessarily going to go nuts with it idk. Much more like manual labor doing all the dang strokes.

The first 300 are the whole first act parallel with Van Gogh's peasant painting period. Where he was all about ugly paintings of poor people. And I'm doing famous people as a subversion/super deep statement about society man man man.

It blows me away that you would spend all this time and effort and still use shitty craft paint.
You are tying both hands behind your back with that move man.
I do applaud you consistently putting out painting after painting and I do admire your balls of posting them online for criticism.
But dude, dump your crafty ways and get actual artist paint.
Check out novacolor. They are a factory out in Cali that has high pigment top acrylic based paint for CHEAP!
And then once you get tired of trying to mix color faster than it dries I think you would really fall in love with oils.
Just the color difference alone is worth it.
I have tubes of Golden and Liquitex acrylic paint and they just don’t compare to oils. And I didn’t even go for expensive oil colors. Just run of the mill Gamblin.

Anyway keep chugging along because I’m sure your learning but I gotta warn you if you keep doing the same thing with the grids and not focusing on values your paintings will barely get any better.
One thing that will get better is your command of the brush and the consistency of your strokes.
You are doing what it takes to get better at that.

But without correct values and with the shitty watered down craft paint that has little pigment and tons of fillers AND has white pigment added to ALL THE CRAFT PAINT COLORS (which is probably the main reason your painting values are off) your painting will continue to look drab and boring and monochromatic no matter how well they are drawn with paint.
I’m telling you man, just a few simple things changed on your part and I bet you could truly be on the road to somewhere with your work.

I feel like a literal baby that just had some super profound realization in their head or something and doesn't know what to do with it so they have a weird cry about it.

all this shit is definitely wrapping up. Still gonna be around until after the storm but then I'm probably going to be done with the first act bullshit and I (hopefully) wont be getting danger close with self-destructive memes like this until ~2020 when I cut a finger off.

I think the nature of my mental illness is relatively fantastic and "one-in-a-million" in ways that will hopefully be explored publicly in the future as part of the process of me "killing my self" over the span of this race against Van Gogh. We're in one of them most exhilarating times in human history and my idea of an "afterlife" is that my mistakes could potentially help future generations deal with the tidal wave of bullshit that we as a species are fundamentally unprepared for.

I don't care about pissing contests with anyone other than my ideal self. And I think it's important for humans to strive to do better and I'm willing to self destruct if I think it may help the progress of the human race to escape the sun.

None of us are competing. Humans kill humanity. And it was "too late" 300 years ago. The chances of ANY of the bullshit in your life making it a few decades after your death are slim to none. And the chances of any of THAT mattering in the cosmic scheme of things is ZERO.

Plus the concept of "zero" only really means anything from a human experience. We created all these memes to justify an indifferent universe and I'M the crazy one because I want to cut a finger off to celebrate this.

your concept is flawed. if all you care about is having a 300 piece collection of meme faces, you could have just printed them (and printed them badly, since you are obsessed with amateur work). when people point out that all your works have these beginners mistakes, you start defend them as "done on purpose". and then you decided to go over them with a dot pattern, mechanically filling the flat color shapes, which ends up making the painting fall apart (face, torso, background relationship). many details in the faces, careless execution of the rest.

I don't understand why you are proud to ignore all this. for me, getting these aspects right would actually be the fun part, the juicy, soft part of the cake. you just can't be bother getting that right. i have no idea why someone would be that way. my best guess is that you can't go beyond the bit of joy you feel about having finished to do the graphite transfer. maybe for you, there is nothing beyond that, no aspiration to go any deeper into the subject matter. proud amateurism.

what's this quanitity bullshit anway? van gogh constantly thrived to improve. he learned perspective, he used a framed thread grid to make some of his landscapes directly in nature. he actually got good by doing so many pieces.

what you do is exactly the opposite to me.
1) you transfer the meme faces. that is cheating to begin with, as you never learn how to actually render shapes, understand foreshortening, paint clothes, mix colors etc.
2) you use a stale, redundant theme - extreme facial expressions - and you even cut the composition to the torso or neck area.
3) you use cheap colors and can't be bothered to mix them.
4) you ignore constructive criticism. you know damn well that van gogh was open to criticism, considering all the letters to his brother.
5) you live in a messy flat. it is easy to be neglectful and have your place look like shit, including the toilet that is literally caked in old shit. it is hard to be a functioning human being with decent hygiene and a flat where you can invite people over. but you have too many excuses to justify that.

I did graphite transfer on those, yeah. Used to have 20 canvasses ready to go before I'd hop into painting. Most of those canvasses had been prepped 2 weeks earlier. It's not like you can't do that with canvasses that were prepped through any other means. It's just a matter of dividing up the labor and focusing on one aspect of production at a time.

been painting for well over ten years now. i choose every motif with care, i make my own photos, but i don't work from photos very often, more directly from my own drawings. i think a lot about what i draw and what i want to transport with it. each painting can open up a world and i'm excited to see what comes out of it. i have never used any grids and the last time i traced something was when i was literally 14 years old and i put some transparent paper on the tv set, put the vcr on pause and copied a face from an animation. i never did it again.
