Newfag in digital art here, graphic tablets are super achievable now online, but the ones with screens and with a built-in computer are still expensive. My budget is around 500 bucks, should i go with screen tabs or are normal ones without screens good enough?

>> No.3719325

Normal ones are fine. Your budget also supports an iPad as an option for you want the PC built in

>> No.3719458

>>3719321
Don't go for chinese screen tablets, it's Wacom or nothing I speak from experience. The cheaper options are fine for the first year or two then they start doing all kinds of shit like stop responding to the pen. If I could go back I would never have bought one.

>if you want the PC built it
Has storage management actually improved on those things? It's been the biggest reason why I haven't gotten one. Granted I haven't used an IOS device since my really old iPod Touch.

Man, I have a Wacom and believe you me, there were times my tablet wouldn't even respond to my old computer. It's fine now, but to say Wacom is better when its drivers are shit is a bit of a lie.

>> No.3719520

I recently got one of the smaller XP pen displays because I had seen a few artists shilling it. It's better than my Huion, which was starting to die after only 6 months. Also I don't know who originally told me that there wasn't a difference between using a display and regular tablet, fuck you lying pieces of shit.

>> No.3719524

For the love of god try to avoid screenless tablets like the plague. The only time I started to enjoy using digital was when I got an iPad Pro.

>> No.3719527

screen tablets are still a technology too new to invest on when you're in a tight budget. Go safe with an intuos, plus a second screen if you like to draw while watching stuff or streaming

>> No.3719528

>>3719520
You are a retard if you believed them. There is a massive disconnect between tablet + screen compared to drawing straight on a screen/paper.

Get the Gaomon PD1560. Try that out. Return it if you hate it. Best in class and most affordable. Restocking fee is like
10 bucks

My Huion experiences constant jittering no matter how stable my hand is when drawing. The cable is garbage, and isn't secure in the port on the tablet. My first pen died after 4 months of usage. etc.

It's my first apple device. But basically for me I can upload my stuff to dropbox or use icloud. I don't bother with trying to do direct transfers but I'm sure it's possible.
>>3719524
Perhaps I got Stockholm syndrome but I was so in love with my intuos and everything that comes with it (sitting in a proper position, not having your hand block your view, etc) that it actually took me quite a while to get used to drawing on the screen. And honestly I don't know if I got any benefit from it besides the portability and other perks. So I don't think getting a screen is absolutely mandatory.

Get a 6th Gen iPad and Apple Pencil with Procreate/CSP/etc for maximum comfy. It's literally a digital sketchbook you can take around with you.

It's also a tablet so you can do shittons more with it than just drawing. Storage can be an issue at only 32Gb but you can always offload stuff to something like Google Drive or Dropbox.

Nigga that's an iPad Pro

6th gen iPad is $329 and an extra $100 for the Pencil. It's literally one of the best deals for a screen tablet with the bonus of being a tablet for other shit.

If you're a Mac fag it's also a Cintiq.

You should go with an intuos medium size. Its basically industry standard and offers the best quality for the money you can spend. This tablet survives when you upgrade or break your pc too, unlike the alrernatives.

The ipad is a good alternative for on the fly sketching, but still worse quality than the intuos. Personally decided against buying one despite traveling a lot, because apple is notorious for phasing out older models by draining the battery with software updates.

For a built in pc there is the surface and the wacom mobile, they are out of your budget. The price you pay for portable device is not worth it, both for actual money and for the loss in quality.

I got the new Kamvas 191 when it came out. It's better than the last generation but it doesn't really compare with the wacom premium.
Like the last anon said, it gets wonky after 2 years or so, has glaring issues like cursor placement and shit like that.
It does do its job fine though, except the fucking wobbling if you don't use stabilizers.
Really cheap at least.

>> No.3720720

>>3719321
for some people they really just can't wrap their head around not having a screen, for some people the lag when you do have a screen is distracting and makes it hard for them to draw. so there's pros and cons and really the truth is the main pro for the screen is that it looks cool.

but aside from that you can get a good tablet for like $50 these days, second hand or huion, so just try one out and see if that'll do you

>>3719503
I can't imagine they'd be any worse than the Chinese drivers however I do speak from a point of ignorance as I have limited experience with Wacom and it's been far better than my experience with the cheaper option.

Since I never used any of the other brands, I can only speak with my experience with my Intros. It works fine on the new machine (aside from some lag in CSP at times), but back when I had my old computer, it was like playing Russian Roulette with the driver and I had to keep the installation disk on hand regularly in case the driver stopped working when I booted it up.

So how's the Ugee HK1560? I had the 1910b for a couple of years and the pen worked great, but the screen was shit. I'm using a Huion Kamvas now and it's pretty good, great screen but the pen calibration is almost imposible to get right, and I'm not using the hotkeys anyway.

Does an iPad 6th gen feel good to draw on? My story is as follows

>start drawing
>after a month of paper fall for wacom screenless meme
>feels like the pen is scratching the tablet and i just cant get comfortable
>sell it and take break from drawing

Got an iPad 6th gen a few months ago yet haven't got a pencil because i heard it feels like shit to draw on. But I want to get back into drawing so maybe I should just get it.

It takes a bit of getting used to at first, as you're drawing on a glass surface so its a bit slippery. Go to an Apple store or Best Buy and you can usually find a display with a pencil.

You can mitigate that with a cheap matte screen protector to add a bit of resistance. It doesn't completely emulate drawing on a paper surface but it's much nicer than without.

I did in a previous post but after a few years it's started to get real funny with the pen either not reading it correctly or outright shutting down on me with the only fix being restarting my PC. reinstalling drivers dosn't stop this from happening.

I tried it once in a Apple Store. Sure i sucked but i thought it was cool and that if i keep doodling stuff i'll get better.
Also if i end up getting it, what are good apps that let me share my stuff onto my pc and that can use .psd files? I know Adobe stuff can do that but i'm not sure i think there might be better options.

When I look at reviews for the 6th gen iPad and the pencil they always talk about sketching and drawing on the go

But how does it work for doing actual full fledged drawings and paintings?

>> No.3727123

>>3727106
It's perfectly fine for a full fledged piece unless you use layers for every single stroke you make. It has less RAM than the Pro so programs like Procreate give you less layers.

The main reason they push the sketching is due to the smaller size. You don't have as much screen real estate but it's easier to carry around with you and make little doodles. My iPad fits snuggly in my jacket pockets.

Procreate and csp allows you to export psd to your computer, Macos via Airdrop. Not sure about Windows though. I also started drawing and painting again after years of not touching art, and it’s been a blast on the iPad Pro.
