Any one else stuck in the cycle of shifting through mediums and styles without producing anything worth while?

>discover a new artist
>"oh wow, it sure would be nice to paint like that"
>start imitating his style
>discover another great artist
>"OH MY!..."

That's the wonderful cycle of knowledge. Embrace it.

I'm in the same situation, but I think I would rather this than be a one trick pony.

Why do you want one style? Why do you dislike changing art styles every now and then?

>> No.3812429

>>3812104
but thats how it is supposed to be, if you can carry even a little of each style when you switch to another, you'll have your own in no time

This, what the fuck.

this anon has the right idea, you imitate a lot of styles and keep the things you like, draw eyes like one guy while drawing hands like another, add some fucking around by yourself and you got your own stylo

Except your style will always be evolving, so you may never reach the end and find what is "your style".

Step 1. Make folder called "cool"
Step 2. Visit Artstation, Pinterest, DEVIANTART, drawfag threads, exhentai, rule34
Step 3. Save art that you think is cool to "cool" folder (repeat until you have THOUSANDS of 'em)
Step 4. Make folder called "really cool"
Step 5. Move art that you think is really cool from "cool" folder to "really cool" folder
Step 6. Make folder called "the coolest"
Step 7. Try to find the 10/10 art from "really cool" folder and move them to "the coolest"
Step 8. Study "the coolest" folder
Step 9. After some time has passed, start again from Step 1

Optional step: Categorize 10/10's into sub-folders like "coloring" "shading" "head" "eyes" "arm anatomy" "calf anatomy" "texture of sperm" etc.
Optional bonus step: Make folder for 11/10's if 10/10 gets too bloated, or just be brave and hit that del key.

Reference is key, obviously, but you need to figure out what __YOU__ think is 10/10. It can be surprisingly difficult to figure out what is 10/10 and what isn't, hence why you should do this every now and then to filter out the unneeded reference. Study and use the 10/10's reference and nothing but 10/10's, and you'll get your own unique style guaranteed. It just takes time :^)

How many years does this take?
I've been painting literally thousands of oil paintings, and each one looks somehow different to the last and the next.
It's fucking me right off.

I'm boring. I have pretty much the same influences as 7 years ago.
