Can be from anywhere as long as the art is good

Not sure what's being asked. Network and communicate with others, comment on stuff and be genuinely interested.
In a studio you talk with the art director and produce whatever it is you're hired to do

I have a patron who pledged $50 but I think doesn't know that I charge twice a month. I have sent him 3 messages telling him that he should change or remove his pledge because I already charged for what he asked, but he hasn't replied. I've been stressed about it all day because I don't want to have to do a refund. Should I block him, removing his pledge so I can charge, or do I charge with him there anyway? will blocking him affect his first charge?

i'd say just pirate what you want to try and make your own idea. personally i prefer clip studio paint over anything else
also i never used it but Krita is free iirc and it has a good brush engine from what i hear from friends.

I'm just a hobbyist at the end of the day, though, and a lot of the art friends I've made over the years are professionals. They often express their discontent with their careers and how they regret getting into the field.

How can I show them that I care about them, their work, and their happiness without coming off as some patronizing fuck who won't ever "get" it? Obviously I don't have any right to tell someone to hang in there when I have no experience in that career at all, but what CAN I do? how is that supposed to be in name of the whole team if you draw it anyway? if its a collab then its alright and i wouldnt feel like asking for money, but it its just you then this whole situation is bizzare.

I've got Keys to Drawing, Drawing on the right side of the brain, The natural way to draw, and drawabox. Does it ultimately just not matter? I recommend reading this guide before you jump into endless grinding >>4197159

Like you said, it doesnt make sense to "grind" when you dont have any idea about drawing in general. My most honest advice for you is to first and foremost try drawing whatever you want. Whatever, find some pictures and try drawing something similar. Intuition is everything. Find artists you like, that's a must. You can try to copy the way they draw specific stuff, you can analyze how they paint or what colors they use and try to do it like them. Have a very chill and creative approach. You have to enjoy it. If you like anime, draw anime. If you like horses, draw horses, whatever.

Dont drop your passion/inspirations for the sake of studying and grinding all day. open the books from time to time, maybe study one body part, or one concept, then close it and continue drawing from imagination, try to use the knowledge you gained. I repeat: the worst thing you can do is stop drawing your personal stuff and and grind 24/7.

If you want resources to look into that I can personally 100% recommend, here they are:
dynamic sketching videos by peter han (like drawabox but better, good for starting out as a total beginner),
"figure drawing for artists" by steve huston,
"perspective made easy",
"figure drawing design and invention" by hampton,
"force" by matessi

look through these, if anything looks interesting try it in your sketchbook but dont attempt to get through everything in one sitting. behave like you already have the skills you need somewhere inside your brain, you just have to unlock and polish them with practice - its like a toddler that wants to walk but doesnt know how, but knows the general concept and tries whatever feels right. trust your intuition.

>> No.4202108

>>4201935
also i personally recommend using "keys to drawing" only for starting out, learn how to draw from reference from this book and put it away. im convinced it develops a very flat way of thinking about the world.

do keys to drawing and the first lesson or two of draw a box. then grab a perspective book like scott robertson how to draw, d'amelio perspective, or perspective done easy. when you feel more confident with lines, find steve huston's figure drawing book and go through that. by then you should have better idea of what you like drawing and specialize there. you're going to suck massively and it's going to be hard but there's no easy way. you can also do bargue studies along with this to understand how measuring works while drawing.

draw what you like along the way, don't just study all the time. finish pieces and keep going. don't be afraid and think you have to get to X level before you can start doing work like that.

Not exactly. Its more like a step where you prohibit yourself from adding final touches, and make sure it works on its own so it doesn't get a handicap from the final touches.

I would wait a couple more days, and if he doesn't respond, then I would say it's fair game to charge him again. Worst comes to worst, you do a $50 refund and they change they pledge to $25.

Remember this as a rule of thumb when it comes to learning shit:
If you copy 3d shapes, you'll get good at copying 3d shapes.
If you draw 3d shapes, you'll get better at doing 3d shapes.
If you copy faces, you'll get better at copying faces.

drawing a lot of people. there isn't a good one. drawing people and portraits are really difficult and you'll dedicate years before you get good at it. learn construction, anatomy, gesture, perspective. measuring is important, you should study figure drawing methods like sight-size along the way and also comparative measuring.

studying drawing is hard to summarize because it integrates many skills (the fundamentals). you get better at these along the way and it's hard to just practice one at a time. a lot comes with mileage, although things like line confidence you can more specifically focus on.

most importantly, study art you like, copy it, make your own pieces from imagination, don't get in a rut of only studying. it's hard to recommend any more too early.

No it isn't. Different studios have different sized page templates for their artists, none of them make it 1:1.

>>4208813
Depends on how big the final printing is going to be, you will have to test it out. There's no standard size.
Also you don't need to draw the word bubbles with the art, what is usually done is, the artist draws the page, then someone else places the dialogue on top of the finished page. You could do it digitally or, if you really want to go full traditional, by drawing the bubbles on a different paper, then cutting them and placing on top of the original page.

I do believe a medium should be the minimum size people buy for artistic purposes. It still won't be drawing like paper (I still draw way better trad than digital) but it should be better because your usable space gets about 2.5 times bigger. That said, no one can guarantee how much of a difference it'll be for you but I think it'd be worth it. I went from barely being able to do anything on a Bamboo Fun compared to feeling competent on a Huion New 1060.

>IDK why but it's difficult for me to do warmups sketches gestures anatomic studies and actual pieces in the same book.
Get over that. If you're sketching at home buy reams of acid free copy paper and use that for everything to get over that mentality.

I have a store brand cheapo sketchbook that I carry in my bag and anything goes in there subject-wise with pencil or (fountain) pen. I have a cardstock/cartridge paper sketchbook that anything brush, dip pen, or brush pen works on. Then I have a watercolor sketchbook. Some people do use different sketchbooks for different studies but they're usually filling those books up quickly. A lot of people waste resources buying sketchbooks they never come close to finishing.

I'm new to social media and need advice.

As an artist on twitter, how much should I be retweeting others' art that I like? Do people actually look through my media tab to see stuff by me when they visit my page? I'd like to help signal boost, but fear I'll be buried under work that isn't mine.

What's a rule of thumb for retweeting my own work? Should I recycle old stuff when it's relevant again, or to introduce it to a new wave of followers? I see this often, but don't know the threshold for "spamming".

CSP had crashed, and my tool settings had reset back to a previous session way long ago.

I don't know if I'm misremembering it but I pretty sure opacity shouldn't make it so that it forces me to make another stroke when I have it at anything but 100%. I thought I can just go over it continuously, much like a spray, until it reaches at max ink.

So far, brush density helps gets around this situation, but it's just bother me that this issue also affects erasers and watercolor brushes.

Is there way to edit this behavior or am I just on the wrong here?

He's using Corel Painter I think? But that's irrelevant. You just need to toy with the opacity and flow settings to make it easier to blend with any brush. Try setting opacity at 30% and flow to 20%, and color pick a lot to smooth it out and slowly build up your painting in layers.

Alternatively you can use hard round for hard edges, and switch to the soft round to blend out the edges that don't need to be hard. You can also blend with the smudge and mixer brush but I'm not that experienced using those.
